The Payment Solutions Department is responsible for protecting the assets of the credit union by collecting those accounts which have become delinquent and to minimize losses to the credit union and its members. This team member strives to meet the needs of People Driven Credit Union members, ensuring they are promptly and professionally served by conducting appropriate transactions accurately, referring them to another department if needed, and actively cross selling Credit Union services. This team member must demonstrate strong personal ethics including a good personal credit standard within their personal life.
E ssential Duties and Responsibilities - Other duties may be assigned.
- Consistently and timely contact delinquent members: gather information and work with members to make arrangements to bring account(s) current. Proficient using various forms of communication, including but not limited to: phone, mail, and email.
- Handle daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly tasks and responsibilities per credit union policies and procedures which may include working with: NSF, Courtesy Pay, VISA accounts, negative savings, and delinquent loans; handling various communications with members, courts, and third parties including attorneys; processing garnishments, levies, and subpoenas, handling all aspects of bankruptcy, monitoring accounts, processing payments and charge off accounts, arranging for repossession, skip tracing, handle CPI Claims, File SAR's, reconciling charge-off reports and general ledger accounts. Independently researching, reviewing and responding to credit union credit disputes, as assigned.
- Recommend accounts for review with the Payment Solutions Manager for repossession, legal action and charge-offs.
- Initiate action necessary to collect delinquent accounts; file small claim suits and independently represent the credit union at small claims court as assigned.
- Review delinquent accounts for deceased members; bankrupt accounts and legal action accounts.
- Ensure that collection operations are conducted in accordance with established credit union policies, procedures, and are legally compliant. Ensure that collection activity is properly documented.
- Stay informed regarding local and national economic conditions and legal and regulatory changes, keeping up to date on laws affecting collections.
- Resolve members' requests, problems, and questions promptly. Answer members' questions or refer appropriately.
- Maintain and project the credit union's professional reputation.
- Complies with the Credit Union's policies and procedures to assist the Credit Union in remaining compliant with BSA/OFAC and other regulations.
- Maintain privacy of member account information.
- Meet and exceed all PDCU Service Standard Expectations.

Education :
- High School graduate or equivalent.
Experience :
- Collection experience preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrate strong business and personal ethics, and a firm understanding of Collection Compliance, included but not limited to the following acts: FDCPA, FCRA, FACT, FOIA, SCRA, UDAAP, Michigan Collection Practices Act, and OFAC/BSA.
- Must able to independently represent the Credit Union in small claims court and mediation.
- Capable of handling difficult collections, maintaining a professional manner in dealing with delinquent members.
- Proficiency in understanding credit reports, bankruptcy laws, skip tracing, and legal processes.
- Capable of handling credit reporting disputes, including eOscar
- Strong member/employee service orientation, with a passion for delivering superior service/results
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- The employee in this position must be capable of effectively handling stress, multiple concurrent tasks, and constant interruptions.
- Good organization and time management skills.
- Tech savvy with good working knowledge of word processing software, spreadsheet software, e-mail software, use of the Internet and the ability to learn internal use software.
- Excellent collaborative skills to work cross functionally with various departments/branches and operational areas.
- Must have positive working relationships with others in the organization in order to achieve goals and objectives.
- Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Products, and assist in the preparation of monthly reports.
