Job description
JOB SUMMARY: The Drafter position is responsible for preparing clear, complete, and accurate working plans and detailed drawings from sketches or notes for engineering or manufacturing purposes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Draft plans and drawings for layout, construction, and operation of pipeline systems from field notes, rough or detailed sketches, and specifications; make adjustments or changes as necessary.
- Develop detailed drawings for construction of equipment and structures such as, frame, steel, and masonry buildings, piping manifolds and pipeline systems, and for manufacture, fabrication, and assembly of machines or machine parts.
- Prepare maps of pipeline systems and oil and gas locations using field survey notes and aerial photographs.
- Import, update, and integrate our system with information provided to ENSTAR for projects and database use. This information generally arrives in CAD or GIS form.
- Check dimensions of parts, materials to be used, the relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to whole structure or project.
- Use knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
- Compile data to produce business or technical reports and publications.
- Review source documents such as records, statistical tables, and accompanying instructions to determine computer operations required to produce documents in format requested.
- Create, modify, and plot with PDF format
- Proofread printout of draft copy to correct errors and verify format specifications.
- Check field notes for accuracy.
- Review and ensure all plats, rights-of-way, and field notes are documented and input to computer-aided design (CAD) to update as-built surveys.
- Serve as back-up to engineering dispatching.
- Maintains project files and engineering archives.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Update ENSTAR's as-builts using ARCMAP/GIS software.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Associates degree in Drafting. Drafting knowledge/skills acquired through college or vocation/technical school training will be considered.
- One year of drafting experience.
- Must possess a valid Alaska Driver's License and be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the ENSTAR's Driving Policy.
- Ability to pass a drug, background, past employment, and driving record screening.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact with individuals within and outside of ENSTAR.
- Basic drafting knowledge and ability to perform related tasks including use of standard drafting symbols, organizing layers, and scaling of text and viewports.
- Ability to read and understand maps, plats, aerial photographs, as-builts, and survey information.
- Ability to read information and instructions and interpret and analyze contents from technical reports.
- Ability to perform computations or analyses using basic statistical, financial, or logical concepts, or complex mathematical concepts.
- Cadastral surveying knowledge.
- Ability to operate computer, plotter, AUTOCAD, and ARCMAP/GIS software with high degree of proficiency.
- Ability to troubleshoot software, hardware, plotter and other common drafting environment day to day issues.
- Ability to complete tasks with latitude to decide what work will be required well in advance of actual activities.
- Ability to communicate technical information and requirements to individuals possessing a wide range of varying technical expertise.
- Thorough understanding of gas transmission and distribution systems.
- Ability to learn and understand ENSTAR's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Sitting, standing, walking, bending over, balancing, talking, repetitive use of hands/arms/legs, eye/hand coordination, and fine manipulation.
VISUAL ACUITY : Close vision (clear at 20 "or less), distance vision (clear at 20' or more), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point), depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances, and ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).
MENTAL EFFORT: Thinking analytically, communication, using effective verbal communication, using effective written communication, handling stress & emotions, concentrating on tasks, discriminating colors, remember details, making decisions, adjusting to changes, and examining/observing details.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Inside and outside, working with others and alone.
