Job description

This position requires the teaching assistant to work directly with the lead teacher to support instruction and meet the essential needs of first-grade students. The ideal candidate will be a creative, confident, organized, independent individual who is comfortable working with elementary age children and a team of teachers. This position requires flexibility due to the ever-changing daily needs of children in a school environment. 

This position is 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday on days that School is in session as noted on the School’s academic calendar (usually 30 hours/week). This position is eligible for benefits as outlined in the School Employee Handbook.

Key Accountabilities

• Must be energetic and have a positive attitude
• Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents
• Understand and meet the developmental and academic needs of school-age students of varying academic, social, and emotional abilities
• Assist in guiding the development of age-appropriate skills across all curricular areas.
• Foster a culturally-competent classroom by helping to establish and maintain a respectful and conscientious environment.
• Attend and contribute to regular grade?level, divisional, and all-employee meetings.
• Fulfill other duties as assigned, such as lunch, recess, and carpool duty.

Qualifications 

• Coursework in child development or elementary education or an associate degree required; bachelor’s degree is preferred.
• Minimum of two years experience working with children in an educational setting
• Must meet minimum technology proficiency standards, including the ability to use the Google Workspace for Education suite.
• Ability to relate well to elementary and middle school age boys and girls.
• Exhibit a positive attitude.
• Ability to follow instructions individually and work well with a team.
• Must complete New Employee Training which includes but is not limited to First Aid/CPR, Live Scan background check, and required Praesidium modules.

Physical Requirements 

• Ability to lift and carry approximately 30 lbs. 
• Ability to adjust from sitting to standing with ease. 
• Ability to stand for long periods of time. 
• Ability to work with children and adults in indoor and outdoor settings.
