Position Overview The University of Kansas, Information
Technology Enterprise Systems (ITES) Microsoft team is seeking an IT Engineer to assist in the deployment, configuration and administration
of highly complex, integrated systems and assets supporting campus operations. The Engineer assists Senior Engineers and IT Architects in
the development and design of systems to provide optimum solutions to complex projects using 'infrastructure as code' and automated
deployment tools and methods. The ideal candidate is someone who likes to manage systems, develop new skills, solve problems, and strives to
find the best way to provide IT services for a large and diverse campus that includes administration, academic, and research
functions.
Team Overview: The mission of the ITES Microsoft team is to provide operational oversight to the
enterprise systems supporting the goals of the University. The IT engineer employs automation and infrastructure-as-code methods to deploy
and manage systems and enterprise applications. Technologies in use include Microsoft Windows Server; core Microsoft applications including
Active Directory, Active Directory Federation Services, Skype for Business, Certificate Services, Microsoft Exchange, and System Center
Configuration Manager. The team is also responsible for the University's Microsoft Cloud environment including Microsoft Azure, Azure Active
Directory, Azure Security Center, Azure Monitor, Azure Log Analytics, Microsoft Teams and other Microsoft 365 applications. The team
participates in the design, implementation, and support of the automated provisioning of users, groups, file shares, and systems using
scripting languages and automation platforms including Azure Automation, AWX, Ansible, HashiCorp Terraform, and HashiCorp Vault. The team
fosters a dynamic and creative environment which focuses on providing the best IT services and customer experience for faculty, staff, and
researchers.

applications - Deploy, configure, maintain, and administer operating system software, enterprise applications, enterprise
networks and other IT infrastructure using manual and automated (DevOps) processes
- Develop software code used to deploy and
configure operating systems, applications, networks, and other IT infrastructure
- Perform troubleshooting, problem solving and root
cause analysis
- Assist security engineers in deploying cybersecurity measures
- Maintain technical documentation of business
processes and workflows
- Create and maintain software code using Git for code version and source control
- Collaborate with
peers and colleagues in efforts to continually improve processes within the organization
- Utilize code-based monitoring and logging
tools to analyze systems and applications
30% - Provide escalated support and project subject matter
expertise - Provide support escalations for users and IT staff for operating systems and enterprise
applications
- Provide subject matter expertise for project teams internal and external to information technology
- Assist
trainers, workstation technologies, and customer service center teams with documentation and escalated support requests

Required Qualifications - High School Diploma/GED and six years' relevant professional experience or
an Associate's degree and four years' relevant professional experience or a Bachelor's degree and two years' relevant professional
experience
- Two years' work experience administrating Microsoft Active Directory in a large academic or corporate IT environment
demonstrating high levels of responsibility and complexity
- Two years' experience supporting Windows or Linux enterprise
applications
- Two years' experience in writing code using PowerShell, Bash, or similar datacenter focused scripting
languages
- Two years' experience using Visual Studio Code or similar code development tool
- Two years' experience working with
VMware or similar virtualization environment
- Excellent written communication skills as demonstrated by application
materials
- Two years' experience working in a collaborative team environment of two or more people
Preferred
Qualifications - Two years' experience using Git or similar code version and source control tool
- Two years' experience
using code-based system deployment and configuration management tools
- Two years' experience managing systems deployed to Microsoft
Azure or similar cloud environment
- Ability to work independently on complex issues/projects as evidenced by work
history.
