We have an opportunity for an AVP, Sr. Claims Examine r to join our Berkley Re America team. You will manage a book of property and casualty claims. The position reports to a Vice President who will monitor the work and grant additional claims authority as training progresses.

This role will be based in our Stamford, CT office (hybrid work schedule). The Metro North train station is right across from our office building - less than a minute walk!
Key functions include but are not limited to:
- Manage a portfolio of complex claims
- Conduct claim reviews as needed
- Determine coverage & ensure accuracy of Cedant claim cessions
- Establish reserves, book payments, complete file documentation
- Maintain claim files in a timely & accurate manner
- Develop and maintain relationships with reinsurance brokers & cedants
- Provide analysis on trends/anomalies
- Submit claims reports as required for large exposure claims
- Provide ongoing workflow reports (Activity sheets)
- Frequent and timely communication with Underwriting, Actuarial, and the management team
- Participate in in roundtable discussions
- Collaborate on Innovation initiatives
- Maintain current knowledge of insurance lines, current claim procedure guidelines
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience
- 5-7+ years of reinsurance claims experience in auto and general liability. If not reinsurance, we will consider candidates with either: (1) mass tort experience in pollution or asbestos claims; or (2) experience handling complex general liability claims
- Will consider candidates with umbrella/excess claims experience, as well
- Familiarity with Policy/Contract language
- Ability to multi task, strong attention to detail, ability to work independently and part of a team
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office; (particularly Excel)
- Strong verbal & written communication skills
- Travel domestically as required
