General Description: The internship program will introduce students, before they approach the end of their studies, to the community college environment and student population. The faculty intern will serve under the direct supervision of a mentor who is legally qualified to teach in the assigned discipline and/or render the service the faculty intern will provide. Faculty mentors will provide substantial direct in-class supervision and evaluation of interns' teaching capabilities. A faculty internship will be limited to a maximum of two (2) years. After successful completion of the internship, the intern may move into a regular adjunct pool in their respective discipline.

Examples of Duties
Essential Functions: - Provide instruction in accordance with established course outlines and expectations
- Inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance policy
- Maintain required student attendance and scholastic records
- Prepare and grade class assignments and examinations
- Post and maintain regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy
- Participate in the development and review of curriculum
- Participate in the development of teaching-learning methods and materials
- Participate in departmental, area and campus professional activities/committees
- Participate in the college's learning outcomes assessment program, including course, program, and institutional assessments
- Perform tasks needed for student records, e.g., submit grades on time to admissions and records
First semester as an Intern: - Assigned a mentor
- Will meet regularly with mentor to plan course content and discuss student engagement
- Assigned to one (1) class within the discipline
Second semester as an Intern: - Assigned to a mentor
- Will have ad hoc access to mentor for support and troubleshooting
- May be assigned more than one class based on Merced College's need
Typical Qualifications
REQUIRED: Disciplines requiring a master's degree - Enrollment in a master's or doctoral program at any accredited institution of higher education AND
- Completion of at least one-half of the coursework, or equivalent, in that graduate program AND
- A demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
Disciplines not requiring a master's degree - Possess any license or certificate required to perform work pertaining to the discipline AND
- Be within one (1) year of associate degree completion AND
- Have six (6) years of industry experience in the discipline OR
- Completion of an associate's degree AND five (5) years of industry experience in that discipline
- A demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students

Employee Benefits : Sick leave, faculty employed on a part-time hourly basis shall earn sick leave credit at the rate of one (1) hour for each twenty (20) hours of paid service.
