The Accountant role at the Walker provides critical support to the Controller by managing and completing fundamental accounting functions. This role is responsible for managing and organizing complex accounting, general ledger structure, and transactions reconciliation while interacting with diverse staff on financial transactions in support of programs and operations.
WHAT YOU GET TO DO
- Lead and execute all transactional accounting with exceptional accuracy and appropriate confidentiality. Work independently in a small office, taking initiative to manage and complete fundamental accounting tasks like account reconciliations, cash management, chart of accounts maintenance, etc.
- In partnership with colleagues, identify and promote process improvements to support environmentally sustainable practices.
- Collaboratively administer enterprise resource planning (ERP) and serve as a crucial team member in supporting the design and optimization of the ERP software, process documentation, and staff training.
- Provide effective and timely communication with budget managers and stakeholders within the institution with a concentration on improving financial acumen and offering relevant accounting perspectives.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders supporting the annual budgeting process, monthly reporting and budget owner queries.
- Maintain a healthy curiosity and working knowledge of the financial dynamics and accounting specifics for the various operations within the Walker Art Center
- Must remain current on financial trends and accounting best practices, applying them to operations at the institution.
WHAT WE NEED IN YOU
Minimum Requirements
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of accounting experience in a variety of organizations and/or financial structures
- Strong computer skills, proficiency with MS Office suite, and extensive professional experience working within accounting and budgeting software such as an ERP software, Sage Intacct preferred, CRM systems like Tessitura, e-commerce systems like Shopify and/or expense processing software such as Concur or Ramp.
- Demonstrated experience and expert skill in the fundamentals of fund accounting and/or with a nonprofit organization, accomplishing tasks to a high level of accuracy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Prior experience in budgeting – creating templates, consolidating data and reporting results.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to face challenges, a passion for accuracy, organization and completing tasks.
- Actively promotes inclusive actions/behaviors within the department and across departments; engages in efforts to diversify staff and vendors where applicable
Preferred Skills
- Experience as a team member in a successful system implementation project or software upgrade project
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk.
- Prolonged periods working on a computer/looking at a screen.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
This position is considered full-time, exempt. As an exempt position, it is not eligible for overtime pay. The minimum compensation for this role is $75,000 annually. The Walker offers a wide range of benefits for both part-time and full-time employees.
This position is not eligible for relocation assistance.
