Are you looking to become a Certified Pharmacy Technician? Banner Health has opportunities for initiative-taking and passionate individuals to train to become Certified Pharmacy Technicians. The Pharmacy Technician Training Program will prepare Pharmacy Technician Trainees to support Pharmacists in improving patient safety, reducing medication errors, and increasing the efficiency in pharmacy. The Pharmacy Technician Training Program includes 18-weeks of didactic, simulation, experiential instruction in a hybrid learning environment: classroom and on-the-job activities with career advancement upon becoming certified.

Schedule:

+ The trainee program will be 18 weeks.

+ Monday-Wednesday from 7:00am-3:30pm will be at the Banner Health Corp Chandler location. The address is 7300 W Detroit St., Chandler, AZ 85226.

+ Thursday-Friday will at an onsite location. Hours may be day shift or evening shift depending on the location. Scheduled shifts on Thursday and Friday will count toward the acute care rotation hours.

+ You will complete a two-week rotation within a pharmacy setting that is different than your homesite location (i.e., retail pharmacy or acute care). Hours for this rotation may vary between day and evening shift.

+ Rotation hours may vary depending on the shifts and site needs.

+ Upon completion of the training program, work schedules will transition to a rotating weekend and holiday schedule. Hours may vary depending on the facility location.

Locations: A fter the trainee program the open positions will be at the following locations.

+ Acute Pharmacy Technician at Banner Boswell Medical Center, 10401 W Thunderbird Blvd, Sun City, AZ 85351.

+ Acute Pharmacy Technician at BUMC Phoenix, 1111 E McDowell Road, Phoenix, AZ 85006.

+ Retail Pharmacy Technician at New River Trails, 7701 W Aspera Blvd, Glendale AZ 85307.

Acute Pharmacy Technician Trainee

This position will work under the supervision of the pharmacist and other pharmacy personnel. Performs routine duties in packaging, distribution and record keeping of pharmaceutical supplies. Consistently demonstrates an ability to assess a situation, consider alternatives, and choose the appropriate course of action. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients being served.

Retail Pharmacy Technician Trainee

This position will prepare and dispense medication under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Provide prescription support services for patients to ensure safe, appropriate, effective, and efficient delivery of medication therapy. Provide excellent customer service skills, high attention to detail, strong problem solving, documentation and computer skills. Work closely with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to support pharmaceutical care activities, complete pharmacy billing activities, record keeping, reporting, inventory management, and arrange appropriate medication delivery.

License: Pharmacy Technician Trainee Licensure or Pharmacy Technician Trainee Registration required. Apply for licensure at AZ fingerprint clearance card is required by the state when applying for a pharmacy technician license.

PTCB Exam: Cost of first exam will be paid for upon a passing score. Candidates must apply for the PTCB exam upon successful completion of the final exam on the last day of class. Must select a date to sit for the exam within 90 days of completion of the program.

Attendance: Personal time off requests during the learning program shall be minimized during the learning program and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. POSITION SUMMARY

This position will work under the supervision of the pharmacist and other pharmacy personnel. Performs routine duties in packaging, distribution and record keeping of pharmaceutical supplies. Consistently demonstrates an ability to assess a situation, consider alternatives, and choose the appropriate course of action. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients being served.

CORE FUNCTIONS

1. Selects and/or prepares medications, under direct supervision, as indicated on the patient medication orders. Places medications in patient boxes or in designated area for pharmacist to check, sends/delivers medications to nursing units as required. May investigate missing medication requests.

2. Charges/credits patients for medications and intravenous solutions as appropriate. Restocks unused and credited returned medications. Maintain databases and troubleshoot automated technology malfunctions.

3. Attends to customers and answers telephones in a courteous and timely manner. Serves as a liaison between the customer and the pharmacist.

4. Identifies medications and other items for reorder as necessary to maintain a continuous inventory of medications and supplies. Receives, checks-in, and restocks medications ordered through the wholesaler and other vendors verifying all quantities against invoices. Assesses practical ways to deal with shorted items and short-dated or unusable items.

5. Repackages bulk medications into unit of use packaging. Completes accurate documentation of medications repackaged.

6. Performs quality control activities such as monthly nursing unit inspections and pharmacy section checks in a timely manner. Completes documentation of refrigerator temperatures, and equipment maintenance activities as required.

7. May use automated dispensing technology or requisition to restock medications to nursing and ancillary areas after they are checked by a pharmacist. Restocks medications to all areas outside automated dispensing technology which may include but not be limited to trays, code carts and emergency boxes. Investigates discrepancies in automated dispensing technology.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Requires Pharmacy Technician trainee registration or licensure in the state of practice per state requirements.

Incumbents in Arizona are also required to provide the AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at time of hire.
