We want to find an innovative, adaptable, and results-oriented Software Engineering Manager to help develop and evolve our capabilities for the National Grid Gas Transportation Information Systems application in Waltham, MA (Candidates may also reside in either, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, or Maine). These capabilities will allow us to provide an always improving experience to our customers while reducing our costs to serve them. What you'll do
As a Software Engineering Manager, you’ll be part of the re-imaging of our gas retail choice product. The product is core for empowering customers to buy from 3rd party suppliers and supporting the business needs to track, manage, and report on usage for those customers and the 3rd party suppliers. Key responsibilities include the following:
Hands-on contributions with code development
Responsible for team output, in terms of code and architectural quality.
Ensure consistent technical direction.
Responsible for defining work process- refining agile process to work best for the team.
Work with their triad (product and design leadership) to ensure that team’s product development evolves in a healthy direction without sacrificing tech roadmaps.
Initiative and lead contributions to the engineering organization.
Gain visibility and recognition across the organization for technical competence and guidance.
Lead cross-team engineering initiatives.
Initiate and manage partnerships in other parts of the organization.
Lead and/or influences the architectural design of complex systems.
Write well-designed, testable, and efficient code.
Provide contributions to the engineering organization.
Contribute to the integration of software components into a fully functional software system.
Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders on the development of digital products.
Contribute to IT standards, procedures, and process.
What you'll need
Lots of enthusiasm!
7+ years of experience in software development, either as a developer or as a manager (or at least 5 as a developer).
Hands-on technical experience with React, TypeScript, Node.js
Ability to collaborate with cross functional teams.
Strong interpersonal skills to manage a team of engineers.
Several years of technical contribution and leadership in a structured team environment.
Experience Architecting and leading the development of complex enterprise systems.
Strong stakeholder management.
Ability to give constructive criticism.
Ability to make decisions quickly.
Strong knowledge of the agile software development process.
Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Practical experience in building and using RESTful APIs is desirable.

Brooklyn, NY $156,000 - $183,000 a year
Waltham, MA $145,000 - $171,000 a year
Syracuse, NY $130,000 - $153,000 a year
Salary is commensurate with experience and location
This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
