The Diabetes, Obesity, and Complications Therapeutic Area (DOCTA) Incretin Discovery group is currently seeking an in vivo biologist. The ideal candidate will be responsible for research in small animal in vivo and incretin biology, with a focus on innovative metabolic targets. Responsibilities include active support for existing research projects and for the initiation of new drug discovery efforts. We are looking for a self-motivated individual capable of independently implementing detailed research protocols. While experience in small animal handling and surgery techniques is beneficial, it is not mandatory. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential, and the candidate should be comfortable working in a team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities - Capacity to design and perform (acute and chronic) compound efficacy and screening studies in vivo studies in mice and rat models of diabetes.
- Expedite animal handling & dosing (p.o, i.v., i.m., s.c. and i.p.); insulin and oral glucose tolerance tests; animal necropsy and tissue collection at conclusion of in vivo studies.
- Experience with diabetes/obesity animal models (mouse and rat) is preferred.
- Requirement for accurate record keeping, independent data analysis, and reporting of data in written and oral formats. The work shall be performed in full compliance with Lilly Research Policies and complete all required training activities in the timeframe specified.
Basic Requirements: Bachelor's degree in biology, pharmacology or a closely related field is required
Additional Preferences - Demonstrated expertise with mouse and rat handling/dosing and small animal surgery skills is preferred.
- Experience and willingness to work with chemical, and biological hazards.
- Provide support for in vitro experimentation.
- Experience in diabetes and/or obesity research is desirable.
Additional Information - Flexible scheduling is a requirement.
- The position is full-time (40 hrs/wk), but not all regularly scheduled work hours will occur Mon-Fri from 8 AM-4:45 PM. A weekend rotational assignment is required as part of this flex time position.
