What You'll Do
For the Intermediate Level:
Clinical Operations: Assistant with patient management in the Graduate Periodontics clinic by seating and preparing patients for treatment promptly to keep on schedule, assisting with patient concerns, escorting patients to various locations throughout the school, and using the electronic health record for various patient-related activities and documentation. Work with dental residents to provide periodontal dental care to patients which includes chairside assisting, assistance with patient sedation and set up for surgical procedures. Assist with setup, breakdown, maintenance, clean-up, proper sterilization, or other preparation of rooms. Expose and set digital radiographs according to standard procedures or specific instructions. Follow current infection control standards pertaining to OSHA guidelines and HIPPA and assist with infection control monitoring of faculty, students, and staff along with quality assurance processes in the clinic.
Clerical Operations:Actively work with team members, staff, student providers and faculty on training issues and appropriate procedures. Understand insurance codes and information, treatment plans, assist the department in managing patient financial concerns/disputes, and commercial interactions with the clinic, and maintain clinic policies and procedures for patient care. Provide back up support to the front desk as needed. Report any issues to the Clinic Manager or Director so they may be addressed promptly
Inventory and Equipment Management: Support the Graduate Periodontics clinic operationally by cleaning, disinfecting, preparing, and arranging work surfaces, instrument storage cabinets, sinks, water bottles, and dispensing areas; prepare and maintain dental instruments, including assembly and packaging for sterilization, package clinic supplies for distribution; maintain an inventory of supplies in the work area; order office/dental supplies, instruments and equipment; Other duties as assigned.
For the Senior Level:
Clinical Operations:
Assistant with patient management in the Graduate Periodontics clinic by seating and preparing patients for treatment promptly to keep on schedule, assisting with patient concerns, escorting patients to various locations throughout the school, and using the electronic health record for various patient-related activities and documentation. Assist students, residents, and faculty/staff dentist chairside when needed, including obtaining radiographs. Coordinate laboratory cases for undergraduate dental students and GPR. Follow current infection control standards pertaining to OSHA guidelines and HIPPA and assist with infection control monitoring of faculty, students, and staff along with quality assurance processes in clinic.
Clerical Operations:
May assist in the development and revision of training procedures and assist in the training of dental students. Understand insurance codes and information, treatment plans, assist the department in managing patient financial concerns/disputes, and commercial interactions with the clinic, and maintain clinic policies and procedures for patient care. Assists Clinic Coordinator as needed
Inventory and Equipment Management:
Support the Graduate Periodontics clinic operationally by cleaning, disinfecting, preparing, and arranging work surfaces, instrument storage cabinets, sinks, water bottles, and dispensing areas; prepare and maintain dental instruments, including assembly and packaging for sterilization, package clinic supplies for distribution; maintain an inventory of supplies in the work area; order office/dental supplies, instruments and equipment; perform routine preventative maintenance on dental units, chairs, and operatory lights; oversee equipment function and report dental equipment repair and maintenance/replacement needs.
Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications *
For Intermediate Level:
High School Diploma or GED.
2 years of dental experience or education equivalent (Associate's degree in Dental Assisting).
Current BLS for Healthcare Providers.
Radiography certification.
Knowledge of HIPPA, OSHA standards, and aseptic techniques.
Reasonable knowledge of dental clinic practices and procedures.
Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team setting.
Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal, and information technology skills.
For the Senior Level:
Certificate of completion form from an accredited dental assisting program.
Certification as a Registration as a Dental Assistant (RDA) with a current Michigan license.
Must hold a CPR Certification Must hold a Radiography Certification (X-ray).
2 years+ of dental assisting experience.
Experience with complex dental procedures and treating medically compromised patients.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients, faculty and staff at all times. Must have excellent attention to detail skills. Excellent Attendance record.
Desired Qualifications *
Experience using a dental electronic health record.
Experience with patients under IV sedation.
Work Schedule
Hours for the position will be Monday - Friday 8:30 - 5:30p with some flexibility required.
Work Locations
This position is for the School of Dentistry located at 1011 N University.
Underfill Statement
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. Please see the job duties and required qualifications for the Intermediate level. The salary for the Intermediate level is $35,000-$44,000
