The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.
Under close supervision and mentorship of experienced public health professionals, students will apply classroom learning to practical problems. Throughout this process, students will develop community engagement and public health skills.
Students will enhance their existing skill set by learning strategies to improve health outcomes in diverse communities by supporting public health interventions, health education strategies, and creating culturally competent resources that can be utilized by communities to prevent or manage cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and stroke.

Internship Overview:
- Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week
- Internship Duration: Summer (May 20 – August 9)
- Hybrid position. Intern must be based in Metro Atlanta, Georgia, or the immediate surrounding area .
- Salary: $23.00 per hour

Responsibilities:
Tasks could include things like the following:
- Assist Community Impact staff implementing health equity priority programs, American Heart Association events, Hands-Only CPR training, Heart Healthy Presentations, clinical programs, Healthy for Life, and RAPIDO.
- Assist with Health Equity Committee Meeting and attend events potentially for partner coalitions.
- Interns will support PSE (Policy, Systems and Environmental Changes) events in the Metro-Atlanta, Georgia market.
Interns will be asked to complete tasks such as but not limited to:
- Health fair attendance - distributing material and one on one education.
- Health presentations -small to large groups as they gain experience.
- Special event support - preparing supplies, recruiting, and managing volunteers, etc.
- Program implementation - recruiting and training program sites, follow up on participants, etc.
- Intern will help put together community resources.
- Intern will assist Community Impact staff in other ways identified as needed.
- Qualifications:
- Interest in Public or Community Health, Health Education, and Policy.
- Effective oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
- Ability to work professionally with colleagues and professional volunteers.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.
- When onsite at community events, may be required to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Intermediate use of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, Canva, and PowerPoint.
- Required Equipment:
- Reliable WiFi Connection
- Reliable Transportation
- Masters of Public Health student, preferred.
- Minimum availability of 20 hrs/week., Monday - Friday between the hours of 8:30am-5pm, with additional weekday evening events, and some weekend events.
- Available Tuesday and Thursday in-office, required.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
