Histology Technician (Pathology)
Kelly Outsourcing Consulting Group has an opening for a Histology Technician (Pathology) for a long-term engagement at one of our Global medical device clients in Cincinnati, Ohio. The role is eligible for medical benefits, paid time off including vacation (PTO), and holidays, 401K, and annual performance reviews. The Kelly OCG team supports Preclinical Research in Vivarium operations and includes twenty team members. Day shift Monday through Friday
Purpose of Position
To set up the Histology laboratory and independently perform the histology phase of studies conducted in-house. To assist with or conduct necropsies during animal testing in medical device research.
Responsibilities
To set up equipment and run the Histology laboratory to process animal tissues collected from in-house studies.
Tissue trimming, embedding, section using microtomes, stains (routine and special staining) tissues.
Write standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the Histology laboratory.
Operate histology laboratory equipment and other instruments and ensure its proper operation and maintenance.
Conducts or assists with animal necropsies, including set-up and associated routine and procedures.
Conducts quality control of procedures performed including review of raw data and preparation and review of study materials to be archived.
Records all information obtained in studies according to established procedures. Ensures that records and raw data are properly maintained.
Conduct inventory of pathology materials (preserved tissues, blocks, slides), maintain, and organize records, logbooks, and workload reports as per SOPs.
Maintains the histology lab clean and organized and inventory laboratory supplies and equipment and replenish stock as needed.
Proactive to set priorities and use time wisely to meet deadlines and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Performs other duties as assigned by manager/supervisor.
Follow all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices.
Qualifications (Skills & Competencies)
Experience in a histology/pathology laboratory is required.
Independently conduct routine duties for the histology laboratory is required.
Experience in trimming, embedding, microtomy and processing tissues is required.
Prepare and stain slides, including routine and special stains is required.
Overall background of experience or combination of experience and education to allow performance of the job requirements listed.
Preferred, but not required :
Certified by American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL).
Trouble shooting skills for technical challenging experimental conditions.
Experience conducting necropsy of large and small animal species.
Experience in compliance and working knowledge of GLP regulated environment.
Excellent communication skills, computer proficiency and demonstrate willingness to work collaboratively.
