Job description
Meeting the health care needs of residents during classroom/therapy time.
Collaborates, evaluates, and plans for these needs. Provide health care for the residents during classroom/therapy time.
Temporary position until August 2024
Monitor health care needs of all students on a daily basis.
Monitor students’ health status in a manner that is least disruptive to the classroom, students, and scheduled community activities. Maintain the physical safety of students and staff in compliance with appropriate standards and guidelines. Assures compliance with infection control practices and standards. Administers treatments and medications as ordered by primary physicians during classroom time to facilitate student classroom attendance and community involvement. Facilitates the exchange of interdepartmental communication regarding care planning, documentation and overall medical and nursing needs of the students. Communicates any changes in care such as trials of new equipment, activity and positioning programs and medication changes to appropriate team members. Collaborates with nursing staff on all units to develop comprehensive, appropriate nursing care planning that includes classroom and recreational time for all residents. Meets regularly with the education staff and nursing administration. Provide daily nursing coverage within the Eating Skills program for students, including monitoring of overall health and physical comfort before, during and after meals.Current Massachusetts nursing license as a registered nurse.
Strong interpersonal skills required and experience with interdisciplinary team work required. Experience with developmentally disabled, chronically ill children preferred. Experience with leadership/supervision preferred, particularly previous experience as a school nurse within a public or private school setting.Job tags
