The Moores Cancer Center (MCC) is one of just 55 NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States and the only one in San Diego County. Responsible to independently oversee the MCC Pancreatic Cancer research program and represent the program to outside organizations. Oversees all research operations, finance, human resources, and facilities for the program. Designs and develops major lab operational components, and administers the full range of the program's operational requirements. Works with faculty on formulating short-term and long-term planning and procedures. Works under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI) to establish program/lab agenda, funding, and objectives, and coordinates all collaborative research agreements. The candidate will have experience in the areas of DDR biology, molecular mechanisms of metastasis, biomarker development and testing, and in therapeutic development.
Under the direction of the PI, the candidate will take a leadership role in developing, managing, and executing the MCC Pancreatic Cancer research program and oversee a team of graduate students, research associates, and postdoctoral fellows that focus on studies defining the molecular underpinnings of pancreatic cancer, with development and execution of pre-clinical testing of promising therapeutics using novel human models. The scientist will also oversee all of the translational research activities of the PRECEDE Coordinating Center, including standard operating procedures for biomarker development and analysis.
They will be responsible for overseeing research projects, assist in writing grant proposals and scientific publications, and all elements of program administration. The incumbent will represent the center by giving talks on research progress and accomplishment in internal and external meetings, seminars, and conferences. The position will also work collaboratively with other investigators both intra- and inter-institutionally or with industry partners to design, develop, and execute research projects that are a part of or collaborate with the Center.
Independently oversees a moderately sized academic or research program and represents the program to outside organizations. Assists with the design and development of academic or research program components and administers the full range of the program components and operational requirements; administrative, finance, human resources, and facilities for the academic or research program. Works with faculty on formulating short-term planning and procedures of the programs. Develops and organizes conferences and other public forums. Works under direction of Principal Investigator to establish center agenda, funding, objectives.
Ph.D. in a relevant field with at least five years relevant post-degree experience.
