IT Support Specialist-Pharmacy

Job description
The IT Support Specialist is responsible for providing timely and effective support for the pharmacy’s automation systems including, and not limited to, automated dispensing cabinets and hospital information systems. The IT Support Specialist is responsible for departmental support of computer training, education and problem solving. The IT Support Specialist will be cross-trained to provide relief support for the Pharmacy Administrative Support Specialist. The IT Support Specialist works cooperatively with the Pharmacy Managers and Director to identify additional duties or change of duties that would enhance the Pharmacy operation.

Daily maintenance of Automated Dispensing Cabinet (ADC) System
- Maintain necessary medication files
- Maintains computer operation procedures
- Provides computer system leadership, motivation and guidance to pharmacy staff and other health care associates authorized to assess ADC
- Assists with problem solving and testing
- Communicates with pharmacy department manager (s) as necessary when problems or unusual circumstances arise.
- Reviews critical daily reports and error logs.
- Interacts with customers, including patients, vendors, and other hospital personnel, with a pleasant and professional manner and appearance
Auditing and Diversion Monitoring Activities
- Reviews critical daily reports and error logs
- Daily review of work queues to Identify and corrects billing problems, late charges and credits.
- Assists with problems associated with on-line medication charting and monitoring of uncharted medications.
- Weekly auditing of controlled substance charting as warranted
- Utilize diversion monitoring software to generate and review reports to effectively monitor, detect, and prevent diversion.
- Communicates with pharmacy department manager (s) as necessary when problems or unusual circumstances arise
- Participates in Quality Improvement activities, including documentation, design, measurement, assessment and formulation of corrective action
High School graduate or certified equivalency (GED) is required
Must demonstrate an aptitude and interest in computer system support
Must maintain current registration with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician.
Must possess excellent communications skills. Must read, write, and speak fluent English.
