Looking for a Hybrid Tumor Registrar!
Ensure proper reporting to all organizations that the cancer data is submitted for tracking purposes. Retrieves data from medical records for research projects and prepares qualitative and quantitative analysis. Collaborates with physician and ancillary department personnel to ensure appropriate documentation, which supports the diagnosis and procedures.
Position Requirements:
A. Education:
Certification as Tumor Registrar (CTR) required. Associates degree preferred.
High school graduate with coursework in Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology.
B. Experience:
Experience in NQMBC certifications preferred.
Experience in NAPBC Certifications preferred.
C. Special Qualifications:
Interpersonal skills to communicate and interact effectively with Medical Staff and other health care personnel when compiling data for coding and record completion.
Experience and clinical skills to determine completeness of medical records and interpret the content of the record: laboratory results, pathology/cytology/hematopathology reports, knowledge of medical terminology, pharmaceutical terminology, radiology reports and disease processes in order to code and abstract required data.

Maintains a suspense file of all identifiable cases.
Reports eligible cares to the Georgia Department of Public Health
Reviews the medical record to determine the principal and secondary diagnoses and procedures utilizing the Medical Registry System (MRS) to obtain the appropriate ICD code.
Case finding function by reviewing patient records containing a malignant/benign code, pathology/cytology/hematopathology reports. Update abstract on readmitted cancer patients for follow-up status.
Codes medical records on a timely basis and maintains SEER and program standards regarding quality and abstracting time frames.
Collaborates with members of Medical Staff to ensure accurate and appropriate TNM assignment, by identifying the primary site and appropriate treatment codes. Abstracts data for all reported benign and malignant tumors into the Tumor Registry, consulting other sources such as attending physicians, etc. to obtain complete information for required documents. Pulls updated abstracts of readmitted cancer patients and add necessary information. Uses judgement based on reports and clinical knowledge to stage the cancer.
Uses abstracted data to prepare specialized reports, research projects, quality improvement studies, statistical reports, research lifetime follow-up and education as requested by multidisciplinary departments involved with cancer activities.
Performs initial quantitative and qualitative analysis of medical records on all patients to ensure compliance with Medical Staff policies and regulatory agency requirements.
Collaborates with physicians to ensure that documentation in the medical record supports the diagnoses and/or procedures coded; educates them on coding guidelines.
Consults with physicians and other hospital personnel regarding record completeness according to SEER requirements.
Interacts with Registration, Radiology, Pathology, Physician Office, Medical Records, and other hospitals/cancer care centers to expedite patient type issues and corrections utilizing Epic and Oncology to obtain complete information for coding and abstracting of cancer patients.
Facilitates, communicates, abstracts detail information on Georgia cancer/cancer
death and submit required data to Georgia Department of Public Health regarding denial and appeal status and plans follow-up on cancer patients.
Supports Interdisciplinary (Breast) twice monthly Tumor Board acting as a resource for cases discussed.
