The Immigration Victim Advocate serves as a primary point of contact for victims served by the Survivors Immigration Legal Project (SIL Project) of Legal Aid Society. The Immigration Advocate coordinates with attorneys; establishes and maintains positive working relationships with organizations in the service area and state that benefit the client population; prepares and presents community education workshops and conducts outreach events about Legal Aid Society’s mission and services. The Immigration Victim Advocate will be responsible for coordination of services to assist clients in increasing stability factors in their lives and accessing community resources throughout the LASMTC 48-county service area. This position is funded in part by, and in collaboration with, one or more grants. Personnel must adhere to goals and outcomes detailed in the grant contract. This position is funded for the duration of the grant and subsequent renewal may result in modification of job duties and responsibilities.

Responsibilities Include:

• Interview applicants and, in consultation with supervising attorney, determine level of service to be provided.
• Provide crisis intervention, advocacy, support, and case management on behalf of SIL Project clients.
• Assess the needs of clients, providing relevant information and making appropriate referrals to other community resources and for additional Legal Aid Society (LASMTC) cases.
• Maintain accurate and orderly client files, adhering to case management database policies and guidelines.
• Support the casework of attorneys as assigned.
• Develop and maintain a repository of community resources available throughout the LASMTC service area.
• Assist applicants with safety planning and drafting of statements supporting their request for immigration relief, all in consult with an attorney.
• Travel within the LASMTC service area will be necessary.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or a minimum of two years of relevant experience. Social work experience a plus.

• Previous employment or volunteer work with a law office, court, social service agency, or other related setting.
• Experience working with low-income people and victims of domestic violence.
• A high degree of initiative and self-motivation, as well as flexibility.
• Appreciates the experiences and needs of people from diverse economic, social, and cultural backgrounds.
• Basic proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel software.
• Effective oral and written communication skills, including in client interviews and while helping people in crisis.
• Fluency in written and spoken Spanish/Arabic is highly desired.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $46,000.00 - $53,000.00 per year
