This position is Hybrid Remote Work. The duties of this position are performed remotely as well as at our central office in Salem. The ability to report to Salem is required when business or operational needs are dependent on onsite activities.

.What we are looking for:
ODF is looking for a Wildfire Investigator to implement and administer the Department's wildfire investigation program in the preparation of wildfire cost recovery. These goals and related duties are in the areas of:
Work closely with the Oregon Department of Justice (DOJ) as required, assure implementation of strategy with thorough report writing and investigation processes, and recommended courses of Department action.
Represent the Department during legal processes.
Coordinate investigation training to meet the Department’s objectives and statutory obligations, and provide interagency coordination as required.
Ensure that all fire investigation and wildfire cost recovery processes and procedures are in compliance with statutory and rule guidelines.
Will be part of a statewide investigative capacity strategy and will serve as a lead investigator on the most complex and controversial investigations, such as wildfires that may result in casualties, structures lost, or with millions of dollars’ worth of damages. These activities are in direct support of the Department’s complete and coordinated wildfire protection system.
Work independently or as a part of a temporary team or project effort.
Will be part of the Fire Prevention and Policy unit staff within the Fire Protection Program and will be required to maintain investigative capacity at a statewide level.
Minimum Qualifications
Three years of experience in Forestry or a related Natural Resource Program. At least one year of the experience must be at a technical or professional level performing activities in a natural resource program such as researching and analyzing data, conducting investigations, applying pertinent laws and regulations, or coordinating and monitoring project activities;
AND
a Bachelor's degree in Forestry or a related Natural Resource Program, or three additional years of related pertinent experience. or a Master's degree in Forestry or a related Natural Resource Program will substitute for up to one year of the required experience or a Doctorate degree in Forestry or a related Natural Resource Program will substitute for up to two years of the required experience.
Note: Driver’s License Check - This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for the purpose of conducting official State business. If your license is from outside Oregon, you must submit at least a three-year court/DMV printout. If you have an Oregon driver’s license, a record check will be conducted on the top candidate to ensure a valid license and acceptable driving record.
Required within 2 years:
Obtain the Type 2 Wildfire Investigator Certification within 2 years of hire.

Comprehensive background, obtained through education, experience or training, in fire behavior and wildfire investigation.
Experience communicating with a diverse group of people utilizing outstanding interpersonal communications skills.
Computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office programs, primarily Word and Excel.
Experience communicating well in writing.
Experience with public speaking.
