Job Posting Information Lincoln Water System is one of 11 divisions in the City of Lincoln Transportation and Utilities (LTU) Department. The LTU team provides transit, transportation, and utilities services year-round to the citizens of Lincoln. Nearly 600 team members make up LTU. This position is responsible for complex and specialized administrative and operations support for Lincoln Transportation and Utilities - Lincoln Water System.
Nature of Work/Examples of Work Performed
- Work involves processing work order events using multiple databases.
- Composing and editing a variety of customer correspondence with accuracy and professionalism.
- Creating and maintaining various program information using spreadsheets, electronic filing systems and other databases.
- Answers routine inquiries about, procedures, policies, function and services of departments; assists visitors and callers by referring them to appropriate sources of information; determine whether a request is within the jurisdiction of the department concerned and uses discretion in giving information to the public.
- Assist plumbers/contractors with water service-related requests, communications with field staff; answering phones; and scheduling appointments.
- Perform related work as required.
Desirable Knowledge, Abilities & Skills/Desirable Training & Experience
- Considerable knowledge and skills of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
- Telephone procedures and etiquette.
- Computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheet and/or database
- Customer services principles, including the handling of irate and distressed people;
- Basic office practices and procedures, including filing systems, financial record keeping, reference sources.
- Communicate effectively and deal tactfully and courteously with the public, technical, and professional personnel;
- Prioritize to meet deadlines;
- Perform variety of clerical work involving independent judgement
- Follow and understand oral and written instructions;
- Use a keyboard with moderate speed and a high level of accuracy;
- Ability to maintain complex and difficult clerical and statistical records and to prepare detailed reports from such records.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
Minimum Qualifications/Necessary Special Requirements
Graduation from high school or equivalent supplemented by coursework in business practices and two years of experience in complex clerical work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the desirable knowledge, abilities, and skills.
