Sampling Associates International

Hampton Roads Operation

$25 - $28 per hour

 

Sampling Associates International, a bulk material sampling services company based in Hampton, VA, with multiple US and international operations, is offering an excellent opportunity for a Mechanic at our coal export terminal operations in Hampton Roads. These operations are in Newport News and Norfolk, VA. 

 

The ideal candidate must have strong mechanical skills with a minimum of three years of experience in the maintenance and repair of complex mechanical systems. Must be able to follow directions and work in a safe efficient manner. Excellent customer service skills are also required.

 

Below is a description of the minimum skills and responsibilities needed for this position. These are not listed in any order of importance or demand:

 

1) Perform routine preventive maintenance inspections and tasks to ensure that machines continue to operate smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and that the physical condition of facilities does not deteriorate.

2) Inspect drives, motors, and belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, and perform other maintenance actions, following checklists.

3) Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.

4) Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary.

5) Install, replace, and change machine parts and attachments, according to diagrams, drawings, blueprints, maintenance manuals, and schematic diagrams.

6) Reassemble machines after the completion of repair or maintenance work.

7) Set up and operate machines and adjust controls to regulate operations.

8) Start machines and observe mechanical operation to determine efficiency and to detect problems.

9) Adjust functional parts of devices using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.

10) Align and balance new equipment after installation.

11) Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools.

12) Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements, using rulers, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.

13) Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches.

14) Set up and operate machine tools to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures, and tools.

15) Operate cutting torches or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.

16) Clean machines and machine parts, using cleaning solvents, cloths, air guns, hoses, vacuums, or other equipment.

17) Collaborate with co-workers and/or contractors to repair or move machines, machine parts, or equipment.

18) Collect and discard in proper receptacles per site requirements, worn machine parts, and other refuse in order to properly and safely maintain machinery and work areas.

19) Transport machine parts, tools, equipment, and other material between work areas and storage, using cranes, hoists, or dollies.

20) Dismantle machines and remove parts for repair, using hand tools, chain falls, jacks, cranes, or hoists.

21) Lubricate or apply adhesives or other materials to machines, machine parts, or other equipment, according to specified procedures.

22) Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.

23) Ability to meet company policies in safety, employee behavior, attendance, and drug, alcohol, criminal, and motor vehicle record checks.

24) Must have and maintain a valid US state driver's license

25) Minimum education requirement of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

26) Must be computer literate and proficient in MS Excel for the purpose of data-entry.
