Job description
Under administrative direction, is responsible for planning, coordinating and directing the maintenance programs for all municipal golf courses; performs related duties as required.
(May not include all of the duties that may be performed.)
Supervises the activities of golf course maintenance staff assigned to municipal golf courses; performs performance appraisals on employees supervised;
Determines and provides equipment, materials, personnel and supplies as needed for maintenance and care of municipal golf courses;
Develops, implements and coordinates maintenance programs for municipal golf courses;
Plans and directs work projects such as laying drain tile and water lines, the planting and transplanting of trees and shrubs over very large areas; construction of greens, fairways, sand traps, bunkers, ornamental bridges, footpaths, etc.;
Authorizes major repairs of buildings, bridges, benches and paths on municipal golf courses;
Inspects equipment and facilities periodically in order to determine need for maintenance, repair or replacement;
Estimates cost of repairs and/or replacement of facilities and equipment and prepares bid specifications for needed repairs and/or replacement;
Authorizes resodding, pest control programs and the construction of new greens;
Coordinates and directs the preparation of an operating and capital improvements budget for golf course maintenance activities and ensures expenditures correspond to budget schedules;
Compiles data and ensures the preparation of requisitions for pesticides, fertilizers, grass seed, tools and equipment as required;
Prepares reports and maintains records as required;
May serve as the Golf Courses Administrator in his/her absence.
Possession of a bachelor's degree AND five (5) years' experience in the construction or maintenance of a regulation golf course, two (2) years of which must have been supervisory. Substitution(s): Certified Golf Course Superintendent status as designated by the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America may be substituted for the required education.
Possession of a valid certificate as a Certified Public Operator (Turf Pest Control category).
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
