Job description
This position works with the departmental team to develop web strategies and communications with the University’s diverse constituencies. Responsibilities include managing production of a new university website, a project led by the department, in coordination with university stakeholders, to adapt or create templates, and determine design and technical specifications to expand the university’s web presence and streamline navigation. Additional responsibilities include providing creative direction, managing web development operations and capabilities, coordinating training for university-wide content managers, and developing production processes, policies, and standards to ensure a dynamic and consistent web experiences consistent with university priorities. Salary will be based on the successful candidates qualifications and experience.
- Manage web team and coordinate as needed with ITS staff for development of new website as well as routine web maintenance activities, ensuring smooth functioning of the CMS, web events calendar, secure services, appropriate troubleshooting and installation of web applications, security and privacy protocols, ADA compliance, and/or software as needed;
- Develop and execute a comprehensive web strategy aligned with the University's objectives;
- Analyze current web systems, propose enhancements, and oversee the implementation of advanced web solutions to enrich user engagement;
- Manage day-to-day production, special projects, assignments, schedules, and calendars to ensure all work meets high quality standards, is timely, within budget, and is consistent with the university’s brand and priorities;
- Plan workflows and processes, allocate resources for digital media and web operations, and manage production activities, including deadlines, to ensure quality and timely completion of projects;
- Coordinate allocation and approvals for the web development budget, including designating resources for projects, software acquisitions, and staffing needs;
- Manage the university's CMS, ensuring it is user-friendly and meets departmental needs;
- Coordinate with administration and vendors as you supervise CMS updates, integrations, and provide user training and support;
- Monitor and customize metatags with a focus on SEO best practices, including implementation of the correct formatting for page titles, headers, meta-information, and alt tags for images;
- Identify strategic short- and long-term content review and implementation activities for the website in order to ensure consistent delivery of an up-to-date, engaging, dynamic, and user-friendly content and navigation experience aligned with university’s priorities;
- Implement processes to regularly partner with university leaders, faculty, and staff to review and update web editorial and multimedia design content, providing advice and recommendations to help;
- Act as the primary liaison for web development within, and for, the university;
- Ensure effective communication with various stakeholders, both internal and external, translating technical concepts into understandable terms;
- Develop, edit, and implement the calls to action, editorial content, and multimedia design of all top-level university webpages and all new and redesigned webpage content to ensure consistency, maximize user engagement, and deliver search engine optimization;
- Conduct usability analysis through formal and informal research (focus groups, online surveys, web analytics, etc.) and effectively translate results into site design, navigation, and resource development;
- Regularly evaluate web applications for performance, security, and user experience, ensuring adherence to best practices and standards as well as accessibility;
- Manage Google Analytics, set up campaigns, generate customized reports, and translate analytic insights into improved website content and design;
- Utilize analytics to monitor and analyze website traffic and user behavior;
- Apply insights to enhance website functionality and report key performance metrics to university leadership;
- Manage hiring, mentoring, and supervision of the web team, as well as external and internal creative resources, including, as needed, external vendors, freelance partners, and student interns in order to meet goals;
- Develop and assess staff on an annual and ongoing basis;
- Research and assess emerging technologies in the web development field;
- Recommend and implement innovative and creative solutions to keep the university's web presence modern and efficient, and to ensure the team is using effective technologies in their projects;
- Monitor and enforce adherence to legal, regulatory, and institutional policies in all web development activities;
- Keep abreast of regulatory changes to ensure ongoing compliance;
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES: To be determined.
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or related field is required;
- Master’s degree is preferred;
- Five years of web experience in higher education or related industry is required;
- Experience developing a brand identity and branding policies, preferably at a higher education or related industry, is required;
- Experience in using and evaluating new technologies to promote interest in a program/product/service is preferred;
- Prior supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
