Job description

Position: Assistant Professor

Company: Princeton University

Description: Assistant Professor Sustainable Energy and/or Data Science Princeton University invites applications for a faculty position at the assistant professor rank in the field of sustainable energy, environmental science, engineering and technology, and data science in the Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment (acee.princeton.edu). We invite candidates from all relevant disciplines in engineering, computer science, and the natural and physical sciences to apply. We seek creative and enthusiastic candidates with the background and skills to build upon and complement our existing departmental strengths, and those who can bridge disciplines and span research initiatives. This opportunity is open to applicants from broad multidisciplinary areas in energy and the environment that address energy transition goals. We are interested in candidates with a strong track record and expertise in one of three areas: * the broad area of negative greenhouse gas emissions technologies, including increasing efforts around carbon dioxide capture, utilization, and sequestration/storage (CCUS) and establishing research in methane mitigation and valorization. Central to these efforts is a focus on novel scientific advancement and technological approaches to recover and valorize or store carbon emissions at various stages; * the wide-ranging area of decarbonizing industries, such as in chemicals, fuels, materials, and water beyond the power sector. The areas of interest will build strength in new synthetic pathways for renewable plastics, hydrogen production and storage, water treatment with renewable electricity, waste carbon valorization, metals manufacturing, or technologies to eliminate and reduce emerging environmental contaminants related to energy industry; and * data science in energy and the environmental systems, including approaches such as network theory, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and others that offer promise for tackling an array of energy problems. This includes the development and implementation of smart grids, bolstering energy sector cybersecurity, electro-manufacturing, transportation electrification, and increasing the resilience of the grid and networks of infrastructure; optimization of controls for efficient energy services, water, and building systems; planning interdependent service networks in cities; and decision making for technology adoption, energy transitions, and energy markets. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field and have a demonstrated record of excellence. The successful candidate will be jointly appointed between the Andlinger Center and an academic department aligned with the candidate's expertise. Of particular interest are qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of our academic community. We strongly encourage applications from individuals who identify as members of groups that are underrepresented in science and engineering. Complete applications, including cover letter, curriculum vitae, and succinct descriptions of teaching and research interests should be submitted online to . Applicants will also be required to submit names and contact information for three references. For full consideration, candidates are encouraged to apply by November 30, 2023.
