Job description

Under general supervision, provides professional speech, language and hearing services to students at the Muckleshoot Tribal School.

  1. Screens, evaluates, diagnoses and treats communication-based disorders and/or delays in young children uses various methodologies including individual, small group, and speech and language curriculum.
  2. Uses appropriate treatment methods for receptive and expressive language disabilities, aural habilitation/rehabilitation, articulation and voice disorders, stuttering and development of alternative means of communication (e.g. sign language, etc.)
  3. Conducts and/or coordinates speech, language and audio logy screenings.
  4. Makes medical, audiological or other referrals as appropriate; maintains records of communication evaluations, medical history, treatment, training and follow-up care.
  5. Conducts training for lay and professional staff concerning speech, language and hearing disabilities; participates in planning orientation and training of personnel.
  6. Assists in budget preparation for speech, language and hearing identification treatment program.
  7. Prepares evaluations, various reports, goals and objectives, documentation and correspondence as required.
  8. Schedules and participates in MDT, IFSP and/or IEP meetings.
  9. Participates in various program and Tribal meetings; meets with specialists, representatives of other divisions, governmental agencies, other organizations and agencies.
  10. Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.

A Master’s Degree in speech/language pathology; Washington State Certification in Speech Pathology; and one (1) year of related experience in a clinical setting is required.

 

 

Knowledge: speech and language acquisition, neurological, cognitive, social and emotional development, anatomy and physiology of auditory and vocal mechanisms and disorders, specialized equipment and testing techniques used in evaluation and treatment of articulation, language, hearing and voice disorders, evaluation and remedial procedures for sensori-neural learning handicaps and dysphasia’s, principles and techniques of communication disorders, identification and treatment, principles and techniques of aural habilitation/rehabilitation, educational and psychological needs of persons with communications disorders, theories of learning, diagnostic and treatment techniques of otolaryngologists, orthodontists and posthodontists, community resources in speech and hearing rehabilitation.

Frequently required to sit, stand, walk and talk or hear. Frequently required to use hands and arms to reach.

Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Continuous use of Vision.
