Job description

Job Description and Duties

Per CCR 249.3, this job control may be used to fill subsequent vacancies.

The Biological Control Program imports, rears, releases and evaluates natural enemies that attack serious agricultural pests and weeds. Its headquarters is in South Sacramento. Each year about nine new exotic terrestrial invertebrate species, (mostly insects), are accidentally introduced into California. Some of these escape eradication efforts and become serious pests. One of the only remaining actions that the state can take to prevent such organisms from causing serious economic damage to agricultural and urban areas is their reunification with host-specific natural enemies from their native home range.

This position is located in South Sacramento.

Under general supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist Supervisor, the Agricultural Technician I performs duties of average difficulty relating to the rearing of plants, pest insects, and control agents in the laboratory. The incumbent in this position must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during the work, work well under pressure, and work independently and in cooperation with other staff members in completing assigned work and meeting required deadlines.
