Job Summary:
To oversee the regional Clinical Coordinators and the systems clinical informatics programs.
Essential Functions:
- Conducts self in a professional, dignified, and compassionate manner at all time
- Capable of communicating clearly, effectively, professionally, and in the English language via written and verbal means
- Responsible for enforcing all hospital and departmental policies, as well as all external regulatory policies set forth by local and other government agencies
- Responsible for maintenance of required certifications in accordance with MH policies and all applicable State and Federal statutes and regulations
- Responsible for baseline and continuing knowledge of MH policies and procedures and all applicable State and Federal statutes and regulations concerning emergency medical services, basic life support ambulance service, mobile intensive care, EMT certification, MICP certification, etc.
- Takes appropriate measures to work within established budgets
- Assists in developing and maintaining all of the operational systems of the MH Department
- In conjunction with the MH Director of Quality ensures that ALS, BLS, Dispatch and AED QA/QI activities are in compliance with State regulations and established departmental policy. This includes but is not limited to review of at least 10% of all calls.
- Compiles and analyzes ALS & BLS QA to ensure regulatory compliance and loop closure.
- Monitor key indicators to compare the department to national clinical benchmarks i.e. cardiac arrest survival rates, intubation success rates, etc.
- Oversees clinical remediation as identified through PI in accordance with established department policy.
- Refers operational remediation / corrective action issues to the respective regional EMS manager.
- Investigate and report on any possible sentinel events or clinical complaints.
- Perform semiannually MICP/MICN recertification in accordance with NJAC 8:41 and departmental policy.
- Perform the audit of EMT recertification CEUs.
- Process annual NREMT-Paramedic / Basic recertification in accordance with NREMT policies.
- Coordinates annual ALS & BLS competencies as required in NJAC 8:40 & 8:41.
- Assist with policy development for the department.
- Attends the monthly Clinical Leadership Board meetings and presents relative reports as scheduled.
- Attend and present at monthly EMS Supervisors / operations meetings as needed.
- May be assigned to present topics during monthly management meetings, in-services, and other occasions so they are responsible for understanding, developing and preparing for such presentations
- Maintains membership and attends meetings as scheduled with the NJ Association of Paramedic Programs.
- Committee participation as need arises through the various ad hoc committees organized by RWJBH, system hospitals, and NJOEMS.
- Provides ALS unit coverage on an emergent basis, ie MVA, decon, sick/injured employee.
- Respond to major incidents as outlined in department policy.
- Takes appropriate measures to work within established budgets.
- Ensures that data entry for NJOEMS is processed in a timely manner.
- Provides orientation and on-site supervision for the RWJBH / NBI EMS Fellowship / Emergency Medicine Residency EMS rotation.
- Provides statistics as requested for EMS calls.
- Manage the department s ePCR system, EKG transmission system, and hospital data interfaces.
- Any other activities as assigned by MH leadership.
- Represents the Hospital and MH by exhibiting the highest level of professionalism when interacting with EMS, Police Department, and Fire Department personnel, including hospital staff and administration. Must communicate effectively in person and via radio with all associated agencies and the general public
- Recommends and initiates letters of commendation, performs employee evaluations, and issues counseling notices
- Inspect and enforce cleanliness of vehicles at all times
- Inspect and enforce cleanliness of the stations at all times
- May be assigned a special duty in which case additional office time will be scheduled as needed
- Do not support or allow rumors to prosper among MH personnel (Sensitive discussions between Supervisors, Tour Chiefs and EMS Administration should be done in private)
- Do not allow conversations or materials of sexual or other inappropriate nature or intent to prosper among MH personnel
- In addition, the manager must meet all of the requirements of the Paramedic job description except where waived by the appropriate authority
- Execute staff performance evaluations annually or as directed
- Coordinate and participate in the orientation of new EMTs, paramedics, and RNs
- Ensure the security of the stations at all times
- Interacts professionally with partners, patients, management, colleagues from other EMS agencies, public safety personnel and other healthcare providers and members of the public
- Performs other duties as required or requested by EMS management, necessary to the function of the organization
Education/Certification Requirements:
- High School Graduate or GED
- Bachelor s Degree, Master s Degree preferred
- Must be 18 years of age
- NEMSMA Managing Paramedic Officer (MPO) preferred
- Current Driver s License and must satisfy the current vehicle insurance company s requirements
- Must possess a current NJ MICP certification, National Registry Paramedic preferred in addition
- Must possess an American Heart Association BLS-Healthcare Provider (CPR) certification required, instructor qualification preferred
- Must possess an American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required, instructor qualification preferred
- Must possess an American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required, instructor qualification preferred
- Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support or International Trauma Life Support certification
- Must possess ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, and NIMS 700, 800
- Must have completed Hazardous Materials Awareness training, HAZMAT Operations within 6 months
- Must have completed Weapons of Mass Destruction or CBRNE Awareness training, CBRNE Operations within 6 months
- Specialty credentials in all clinical specialties covered by the department, such as Tactical Medicine and Dive Medicine, preferred
