Job Details:
Purpose:
To assess and evaluate patients scheduled for surgery. To coordinate pre-surgical testing and provide patient education.
Responsibilities:
- Initiates the process of assessment and screening for anesthesia purposes.
- Initiates the teaching plan for the patient and family.
- Selects appropriate preoperative tests.
- Obtains a thorough health history from the patient/family.
- Provides an accurate physical, emotional and spiritual assessment for each patient.
- Accurately documents in the electronic medical record.
- Identifies patient needs based on assessment with follow-through plan of care.
- Initiates appropriate interventions in interdisciplinary planning of care.
- Assist in obtaining data for QI program with follow-through on CQI projects.
- Supervises ancillary staff in the unit.
- Performs any other duties as assigned.
Education:
Experience:
- 1-2 yrs. Med/Surgical experience or period of orientation to functional OR procedures.
Training/License:
- BLS; Basic knowledge of nursing theory and practice. Demonstrates strong clinical skills./Valid NYS R.N. License.
Other:
- BLS Certification; Strong interpersonal and communication skills, organizational skills; self-motivated.
- Flexibility to be assigned to Health Alliance facilities as needed.
