Solutions Engineer/ Sales Engineer
Territory: VA, WV, MD, DC, DE, NJ, PA, NY, RI, CT, VT, MA, NH, ME
Travel : 50%-70%
Compensation: $85k +15% commission on sales
Position Summary:
The Solutions Engineer will be responsible for facilitating all solutions-based aftermarket growth. They will be able to perform the most challenging inspection and analysis of customer installations. The Solutions Engineer will write detailed reports and develop innovative solutions to complex customer problems.
Essential Job Functions:
- Drive profitable Aftermarket sales growth to align with strategic growth plan and Company objectives.
- Perform on-site analysis of customer’s installations of chain and flight systems. Based on field data, write reports, and generate recommendations. Use true understanding of the customers’ needs and the competitive and commercial environment present to provide guidance on proposals. Work closely with Aftermarket Engineering to provide value-added solutions to customer needs.
- Record accurate and thorough data while at customer sites so reports can be generated that accurately indicate condition of customers equipment and facilitate the generation of proposals by the Specialist.
- Coordinate Representatives’ efforts with Product Line Managers and Regional Sales Managers to maintain a backlog of site visits, to ensure a steady pipeline of projects and opportunities. Work directly with reps to schedule visits and optimize travel and inspection schedules. Involve field service personnel for support if needed.
- Work in a matrix organization coordinating Aftermarket activities with appropriate Regional Sales Managers and channel sales organizations. Raise all encountered issues in a professional fashion and follow until resolution.
- Maintain knowledge of the marketplace, competitive analysis and trends affecting the industry.
- Mentor and train both the Upgrade Specialist and Aftermarket Engineer by reviewing site visits, engaging them in site visits when possible and reviewing their work with a Continuous Improvement style.
- Assist Global Aftermarket Manager in preparing strategic and tactical plans to improve sales and margins. Present the strategy and lead the execution.
- Collaborate and assist internal departments in support of sales growth: Product Line Managers, Marketing, Project Planning, Engineering Contract Administration and Finance.
- Apply strong technical aptitude for product system upgrades and retrofits.
- Develop working relationship with all Representative firms in designated coverage areas and promote aftermarket sales with Reps
- Participate and organize training programs for customers, including presentation of technical and operational information to Representative firms.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Industrial) from a four-year college or university or a combination of bachelor’s degree, suitable experience, and mechanical aptitude will form a suitable basis for qualification. Related experience in the Water and Wastewater industry for municipal and industrial markets is an asset.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical documents
- Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
- Ability to write presentations and proposals using original or innovative techniques or style.
- Ability to work with statistical mathematics to be able for evaluate long-term pricing trends, understanding costing and pricing elasticity concepts and be able to implement those into business recommendations.
- Ability to interpret and extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Must be very organized in data taking methods to make effective customer site visits.
- Possess business-related computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, CRM Software and ERP systems.
- Ability to accommodate at least 50% domestic travel including extended overnight stays.
