Preferred Qualifications Position Summary
This position will be responsible for performing, supporting and managing research on host-parasite interactions during malaria and basic immunology by supporting the laboratory's lab animal programs and carrying out independent experimentation. The incumbent will be responsible for organizing and executing the laboratory's animal experiments and ensuring that trainees and other staff have samples for their experiments. The incumbent will also independently conduct experiments to advance the laboratory's research projects. This will include performing flow cytometry, molecular biology techniques, etc. The incumbent will also be responsible for supervising undergraduate researchers that work in the laboratory. Other duties related to laboratory organization and maintenance will be assigned as needed. This position will involve working with multiple species of lab animals and involves weekend and holiday work.

Duties/Responsibilities

* Independently design, execute, analyze and interpret complex research experiments in association with PI and prepare results for presentations, research grants, proposals and papers.
Percentage of time 45 Duties/Responsibilities
* Tissue culture and maintenance of cell lines.
* Ensure proper record keeping, sterility, maintenance, storage and safety of culture work.
Percentage of time 15 Duties/Responsibilities
* Conduct studies with infectious agents under Biosafety Level II (BSLII+) standards including animal work in BSLII+ facility.
* Animal sample processing, data analysis and preparation of data for presentation.
Percentage of time 15 Duties/Responsibilities
* Day-to-day management of laboratory.
* Monitor equipment and repair.
* Maintain stocks of research supplies, cell lines, and stocks.
* Monitor lab budget.
* Maintain a complete and detailed record of all experiments.
* Analyze data.
* Maintain cell lines strains and plasmid stocks.
* Implementation of laboratory organizational procedures and requirements.
* Management of laboratory equipment maintenance schedules, evaluation of new equipment considered for purchase.
* Manage and evaluate equipment and request service quotes.
Percentage of time 15 Duties/Responsibilities
* Interviewing, orientation, training, and supervision of laboratory personnel including technicians, summer and work study students.
* Assist in preparation of laboratory safety, animal and recombinant DNA protocols as required by University.
* Attendance and representation of the laboratory at Center for Vaccines and Immunology Managers' meetings.
* Management of laboratory safety, training records.
* Management of laboratory volunteers' schedules, training.
