What Would you do?
- Perform both energized and de-energized work on substation and line equipment.
- Provide the skills necessary for the construction, operation and maintenance of reliable substations and distribution equipment for the benefit of the our members.
- Make recommendations for changes needed to improve operations.
- Assume responsibility and authority and act accordingly to restore electric service in the event of an emergency.
- Observe all safety rules, work rules and regulations adopted by the Cooperative.
- Assist Manager of Technical Services in the implementation of objectives.
- Install, test, repair, and maintain all substation equipment (includes energized work).
- Install, test, repair, and maintain distribution line equipment including reclosers, regulators, and capacitors (includes energized work).
- Execute monthly substation inspections.
- Perform tests on insulating oil to reveal maintenance needs and possible presence of PCB’s and ensure proper handling, marking and storage.
- Respond to and mitigate equipment oil spills.
- Complete substation construction and modifications including monitoring the work of contract crews.
- Perform on-call duty for substation equipment failures.
- Switching on transmission lines and substations. Develop detailed switching procedures, within substations, and secures appropriate clearances from dispatch.
- Install and maintain peak shaving generation equipment, both cooperative and member owned.
- Install, remove, and maintain mobile substations in EnergyUnited and other cooperatives’ substations.
- Perform storm restoration duties on distribution and transmission systems.
- Stays current on job related rescue techniques, including steel rescue, bucket rescue, and more.
What should you have?
- A high school degree or equivalent.
- Experience with electric utility.
- Attentive attitude toward safety on the job.
- The ability to climb and work from elevated position in structures and from ladders.
- A valid North Carolina Commercial Driver's License - Class A or be able to attain one in 90 days of employment.
- A good driving record.
- Ability to lift and carry 100lbs.
- Capable of stooping, bending, reaching, climbing and grasping and frequently walk long distances.
- Good hand to eye coordination is necessary as is the ability to read electronic displays and screens, printed materials, maps and tool materials.
- The individual should be familiar with and capable of operating equipment utilized in the construction operation.
- Pole Climbing skills are desirable.

- This position is a Direct Operational Position. All employees assigned to an operational position in headquarters or in a district or regional office must make their domicile not more than a twenty (20) mile radius from their respective office.
