Job description
CNC & Grind Machinist
The CNC & Grind Machinist is responsible for programming, set-up, and operation of CNC mills, lathes, and/or grinding machines. This role is responsible for the efficient run of production lots and inspection of work produced using a wide range of precision measurement instruments.
The requirements for this position are as follows:
EDUCATION :
High School Diploma or GED required. Certificate from a technical school majoring in Machine Tool Technology or similar course curriculum required. A minimum of two years of experience as a Machinist accepted in lieu of certificate.
EXPERIENCE :
A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Machinist required. Experience with common manufacturing materials and machining processes required. Manual and CNC grinding experience preferred. Strong written and oral communication skills required. Ability to work cooperatively and professionally required. Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and 5-S practices strongly preferred.
SPECIFIC TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE :
- Proficiency using a wide range of precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, etc.
- Production machining experience with ability to finish to specifications.
- Skill in load / unload parts on machines to support maximum spindle utilization time.
- Skill in inspection of machined parts to verify conformance to customer requirements.
- Ability to detect malfunctions in machine operations, such as worn or damaged cutting tools.
- Ability to work from engineering drawings.
REPORTS TO : VSL
LOCATION : Elmira, NY
RESPONSIBILITIES : - Perform all assigned machine shop operations: turning, milling, grinding, drilling, tapping, de-burring, etc.
- Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to management or designee.
- Maintain work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follow prescribed safety procedures.
- Perform inspection of machined products, document results.
- Complete and maintain paperwork for parts.
