Job description

The Production Shift Leader is responsible for the supervision and coordination of all employees on their shift and overseeing operational systems and processes. Additional responsibilities include driving continuous improvement efforts related to safety, quality, production efficiencies and cost reduction.

Essential Accountabilities

Leadership

Provide leadership for production and production support groups.

  1. Establish and communicate goals, coach, evaluate performance and develop people
  2. Implement and coordinate training.
  3. Maintain a high-degree of visibility and accessibility to answer questions and assist with production, quality or personnel issues when needed.
  1. Enforce company policies and procedures and administer discipline when appropriate.
  2. Responsible for controlling/monitoring cost drivers for the department/shift.
  3. Promote teamwork among team members and support groups through the use of good communication skills and modeling of leadership behavior.
  4. Implement strategies and practices to achieve established yearly departmental goals.

Production Operation

  1. Meet daily production schedules and customer requirements.
  2. Provide machine and process problem solving and root cause analysis.
  3. Identify and implement cost savings ideas and waste reduction opportunities.
  4. Review shift efficiencies (actual vs. standard) and interact with process engineering/support group to assure run to target goals are continuously met.
  5. Plan and coordinate weekly staffing requirements (overtime, temporary associates, PTO coverage).
  6. Prepare and submit reports.

Quality

  1. Promote, audit and support quality systems.
  1. Assure compliance with quality system documented procedures and work instructions for the department.
  2. Work with the Production Manager on corrective action investigations and resolution planning.
  3. Provide training on Good Manufacturing Practices to shift team members and ensure compliance to those GMP's.

Safety

  1. Enforce, promote, audit, develop and support safety systems and procedures.
  1. Lead incident investigations and safety corrective actions.
  2. Ensure the 5S p rograms are in place and functioning to promote a clean work environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Two-year degree in Supervisory Management (or related program) preferred and two years of leadership experience

OR

Six years of leadership experience

Proficient in the use of computers

Experience providing training

Hands-on knowledge of SPC

Personal Computer, fax, phone, copy machine, Microsoft Office, Oracle, Infinity (SPC)

Physical Requirements:

Light Work (lift 10 lbs): Tools, boxes, product

Medium Work (lift 11-30 lbs): Assisting operators as needed with movement of materials and machine troubleshooting

Other Physical Requirements: Mobility to move freely throughout manufacturing environment, in and around machinery and equipment

Travel Frequency (in addition to seminars or related training):

Local: 2 times per year

International: As required
