Manufacturing Engineer (Billerica, Massachusetts)

Our client in global security and inspection technology, is currently hiring a Manufacturing Engineer. This position is a Direct Hire.

The Manufacturing engineer Position develops and implements optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards; recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods and controls; coordinates manufacturing launch for new or revised products.

In addition, this role works closely with Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and Quality to identify and alleviate obstacles impacting Production. You will use and grow your technical skills, you will define and implement process improvements, you will generate and improve product documentation, develop fixtures, work with suppliers, and work on cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities:

Reduce obstacles affecting Production’s ability to maintain schedules.

Take full ‘cradle to grave’ ownership for tasks assigned, including defects (Non-Conformances) found in Mfg. and Test, and for any projects assigned (Be a rainmaker in this area, be excited, passionate and curious to always be looking for new ways to improve manufacturing processes).

Own continuous improvement activities. Come to work with a mindset that you want to enhance processes and products.

Understand the requirements and process to effectively transition design changes, new designs, or deviations into production.

Initiate ECRs (Engineering Change Requests), drive and review resulting ECO’s as required to ensure design changes are effectively identified, integrated, and properly documented.

Ability to understand key deliverables and demonstrated ability to manage multiple task/efforts at any given time.

Represent Manufacturing on cross-functional project teams as needed.

Assists in the manufacturing launch of new/revised products.

Create/Improve designs and supporting documentation for production in collaboration with Engineering when required.

Ability to organize, prioritize, manage, and report on task and project progress.

Improve manufacturing processes by identifying and initiating process improvements for quality and efficiency.

Manage manufacturing related projects and coordinate activities with various internal and external suppliers.

Design, develop, tests and/or source for cost-justifies of various tools, machinery and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods as needed.

Performs product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency.

Build processes and innovate ways to reduce defects and cycle times.

Advocate for, and ensure results and solutions achieve required quality levels, reliability, and consistency.

Qualifications:

BS in engineering discipline (Preferably Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing) with 5+ years’ experience.

Proficiency in SolidWorks 2D and 3D solid modeling (enough to be able to read prints, analyze prints, etc., may look at the right person who doesn’t know Solidworks but is strong in other Cad packages).

Fundamental knowledge of mechanical and electrical manufacturing processes, including assembly and testing.

Knowledge of MS office products, including Outlook, Word, Excel and Visio.

Strong communication skills, including excellent writing and presentation skills.

Demonstrated ability to multi-task and to independently accomplish assigned tasks and work with others.

Experience working in a cross-functional environment.

Familiar with machine shops and drafting practices.

High mechanical ability/ passion for tinkering, passion for solving problems.

Strong pluses:

Post-graduate courses in Engineering.

Experience with EPLAN electronic design tools.

Experience with and/or exposure to AS9100 quality standards.

Experience with Agile and Microsoft D365.

Experience with Sequence Manufacturing Work Instructions.

Design and manufacturing engineering experience.

Experience with Bills-of-Materials and associated workflows (ECO’s).
