Position Description:

The Director of the STEAM Program will partner with the faculty and the academic leadership of Lincoln School to promote innovation and creativity across the divisional curriculum while also overseeing the day-to-day management and use of the STEAM Hub, a space dedicated to robotics, fabrication, engineering, and computer science.  In addition to the STEAM Hub, Lincoln has a dedicated STEAM lab for Lower School and one for Middle School as well.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, a team player, and a leader who a talented faculty and student body will be eager to follow.  Successful candidates will have experience teaching in a STEAM discipline and facility with basic programming skills and will be knowledgeable about current trends in STEAM education.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Collaborating with Division Directors, faculty, and Department Chairs to find opportunities to spark interest and passion in the STEAM disciplines, to enhance the overall learning experience by facilitating inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking, and ultimately to prepare students for future careers in industries that require a multidisciplinary approach
• Working directly with students in the STEAM Hub and teaching classes at various levels as time allows
• Building STEAM programming throughout the Divisions and helping to identify interdisciplinary connections
• Maintaining the Hub space and monitoring the budget; procuring new design and fabrication equipment and consumables
• Teaching faculty and students how to use equipment safely and responsibly
• Supporting teachers in utilizing the STEAM spaces for their own instruction

Qualifications:

Applicants should have exemplary pedagogical skills, a passion for teaching and learning from young people, and a love for working with students in all facets of their school experience. They will recognize the importance of hands-on, experiential learning to promote creativity and problem-solving skills.  Teachers at Lincoln maintain a reflective practice that involves collaboration and critical dialogue with colleagues and division leadership, and they are committed to upholding and advancing Lincoln’s values of community, equity, and inclusion.

• BA required; MA preferred, preference for education in STEM field
• Experience with and confidence in teaching programming languages relevant to STEAM education, including Scratch, Python, C++
• Experience and confidence in using and teaching about fabrication equipment (e.g. 3D printer, laser cutter)
• Broad understanding of the intersections between STEAM disciplines, and an ability to integrate these disciplines in a holistic approach
• Proactive ability to initiate actions and develop programs with minimal supervision
• Superior attention to detail and organization skills
• Exemplary written and oral communication skills
• Ability to multitask and prioritize workload
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity
• Willingness to be part of a team
• Facility with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive, Veracross, Adobe Acrobat, Zoom, and/or other technology directly linked to teaching at Lincoln School
