Summary The Catawba Service Unit is an ambulatory outpatient care facility serving the Catawba Indian Nation and other federally recognized American Indians and Alaska Natives. The purpose of this position is for a multi-skilled health professional who works in the clinic and in the community with other health care professionals in the outpatient administrative and community setting. The incumbent will be required to perform both administrative and clinical skills in a medical care environment. Responsibilities Performs outreach and education in the clinic and in the community by monitoring health statuses and assists in identifying community health problems and health hazards. Provides assistance in health promotion and disease prevention activities. Prepares exam rooms and table for patient use to include cleaning of instruments, equipment and furniture. Documents medical histories, explains treatment procedures to patients, preparing equipment and patient for testing, prepares and administers medications, changes dressings, applying bandages, removing sutures, and other first aid procedures. Provides front desk reception, scheduling and cancelling appointments, completing patient registration forms, and maintaining, filing, and documenting medical records. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must pass pre-employment examination. Selectee may be subject to a probationary/trial period. ESEP appointees typically serve a two year trial period. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: I have 1 year of specialized experience that has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal Service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples include: Performing community outreach and providing public health information; tracks and collects data on community health problems; preparing and maintaining examination rooms, instruments, and equipment; phlebotomy, specimen collection, and lab work; performing medical procedures including explaining treatment, 12-lead EDG, pulse oximetry, spirometry, medication administration, changing dressings, applying bandages, removing sutures, and other first aid; monitoring patients; performing clerical and administrative functions, completing forms, receptionist duties, records and file management, preparing correspondence, coding, billing, insurance claims, scheduling and using a computer. Specialized Experience Further Defined: Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level.
