Opening for Senior Pastor
Bloomingdale Baptist Church in Kingsport, Tennessee ([email protected]), is prayerfully seeking a full-time pastor to replace our retired Pastor. We are a member of the Southern Baptist Convention. We are seeking a pastor who preaches from the Word, unifies all age groups in our church, and has a track record of leading church growth. Job Description
The Senior Pastor is responsible for proclaiming the Gospel of Christ and encouraging the local church body to do so, for guiding the spiritual development of the congregation, for providing pastoral care in meeting the needs of persons in the church and community and for providing administrative leadership for the church. The Senior Pastor position requires the licensing and ordination by a Southern Baptist church of like faith and order.
His duties and responsibilities include:
- Lead, plan, coordinate and evaluate congregational services in cooperations with the Leadership of the Church.
- Provide leadership for planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and evaluation of the total church program.
- Moderate at all monthly and called Business Meeting. If the Senior Pastor is unable to Moderate at these meetings, the Associate Pastor or Chairman of
- Deacons will serve as moderator.
- Preach at all worship services that include preaching or arrange for someone else to perform this function. (Only the pastor will arrange for guest preachers/speakers).
- Serve as an evangelist and lead the congregation in seeking the salvation of the lost and nurturing of the saved.
- Lead the staff and the church in a caring ministry for persons in the church and the community.
- Lead the staff and church members to become involved in missions support through prayer and mission offerings, when possible, through mission activities.
- Serve as Church administrator, giving supervision to other members of our church staff.
- Plan for and provide leadership in the observance of the church ordinances.
- Conduct counseling sessions as appropriate.
- Conduct funeral services and wedding ceremonies, or at times share and delegate to others on the staff responsibilities in these areas.
- Work with deacons, church officers, parish nurse, and committees as they perform their assigned responsibilities.
- Cooperate with state and denominational leaders in matters of mutual interest and concern; keep the church informed of denominational developments; represent the church in civic matters.
- Serve as ex-officio member of all church committees and as staff advisor for church committees, as needed.
- Spend reasonable amount of time visiting members who are in the hospital, nursing homes, etc., as well as any prospects, delegating these responsibilities to other staff, deacons and/or other church leaders as appropriate.
- Comply with all established church policies and procedures as well as all applicable federal and state laws.
- Be reasonably available nights and weekends for emergency pastoral care, delegating these responsibilities to other staff members, deacons and/or other leaders as appropriate.
- Supervise and counsel the other church staff members. Annually review, evaluate, and counsel with the professional staff concerning their performance and plans.
- Counsel with and assist in training deacons for their responsibilities as well as new members of the church.
