Qualifications:

Minimum of 20 year(s) of experience OR BA/BS Degree in Agriculture, natural resources, agronomy or related field of study

  • Clarno hardwoods facility management expertise, Forest Service tree seed orchard management experience, Forest Service whitebark pine restoration & recovery expenence
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, ARCVIEW (GIS)

Duties:

Serve as the USFS-BLM Clarno Hardwoods Facility Manager and USFS Genetic Resources Management Advisor. Support operationofthe Clarno facility including: client relations, order fulfillment and harvest, vegetation management (mowing, weed management), laisse with USFS and BLM leadership, irrigation management and repair. Advise USFS personnel on all relevant aspects of genetic resource management including: whitebark pine genetics program, seed orchard program.

  • Tree seed orchard management guidance & assistance   20%
Other:
  • Comprehensive training is not available as this position is dependent on previous knowledge and experience, but some refresher training could be provided as needed.
  • Travel Requirements: Most days will require travel to field sites, orchards, etc. to accomplish assigned work tasks.
  • Overnight travel: Occasional overnight travel (est. 1-2 nights/month) may be required to accomplish work in remote work sites in R6.
  • Health and Safety Considerations: Basic outdoor work PPE, UTV, trailer, and tree climbing. Ideally enrollee would already be sufficiently trained to FS standards.
  • Required Safety Gear: All necessary personal protective equipment required for chainsaw use, UTV operation, and tree climbing including appropriate helmets, gloves, harnesses, and other related PPE.
  • Safety Gear Use: Chainsaw use, walking in forest with over head hazards, climbing WBP trees.
  • Sawyer training info: Sawyer training will occur in Spring 2024. Monitor will provide details to enrollee when available.
  • Physical requirements: of sitting or standing, and the use of computers. Field work often involves strenuous exertion, lifting, using equipment (e.g., hand tools), hiking long distances, traversing rough terrain, and tree climbing. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
  • Remote work arrangements are available for this position.
