JOB SUMMARY :

Under general supervision, the DSO/SEVIS Coordinator/ International Student Advisor is responsible for the processing of I-20 documents (and J-1 visas if implemented), SEVIS reporting, administrative and operational assistance to the Vice President of International Relations/Brennan Center. Assist with some administrative oversight of an ESL program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES :

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

% of Time

60% Coordination of I-20 documentation, student follow-up as required by SEVIS and SEVIS reporting;

20% Production and distribution of I-20 forms;

10% ESL administrative oversight (NO teaching)

10% General office assistance

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

  1. Ability to read and comprehend the English language sufficiently to be able to read and understand various forms, documentation, files and information.
  2. Basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to be able to verify accuracy of work.
  3. Proficiency to handle various office machines including but not limited to: calculator, copy-machine, computer keyboard, computer software applications, laser printer, copier, fax machine, scanner, microfilm and reader printer.
  4. Ability to consistently demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills dealing with persons both internal and external to the university.
  5. Ability to counsel both international students and employees.
  6. Ability to receive telephone calls, respond to inquiries and effectively communicate with others.
  7. Computer literate, including Microsoft Office, and ability to learn new computer software programs with ability to use computer based systems; Working knowledge of Colleague , Degree Audit and/or SEVIS is preferred.
  8. Excellent organizational skills with ability to be detail-oriented, flexible and able to effectively prioritize tasks.
  9. Ability to perform all essential job functions accurately with minimal direct supervision.
  10. Ability to display sound judgment to insure timely processing and completion of assigned tasks.
  11. Ability to plan and coordinate activities
  12. Ability to be tactful and demonstrate sound judgment when dealing with difficult

circumstances.

  1. Ability to gain thorough knowledge of current immigration rules and regulations.

ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS :

The functions of the position usually performed sitting, but may require some amount of time standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, walking, carrying and other movements may be required. Tasks involving working on a computer keyboard, calculator, cutting, labeling, and taping involve extensive wrist and hand movement. All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without significant risk of injury to themselves or others, or to otherwise demonstrate or explain how they can perform the essential functions listed above.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

  1. Bachelor's degree is required with education, training and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
  2. A minimum of three years of related office experience performing similar tasks is required.
  3. T hree years of experience in international student affairs or higher education is preferred.
  4. Must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States of America.
