About the Role: CICONIX is currently seeking a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for mild, moderate, severe and penetrating traumatic brain injury (TBI) to support the Traumatic Brain Injury Center of Excellence’s (TBICOE) clinical affairs team. S/he is expected to perform with minimal direction and oversight in responding to issues in her/his areas of expertise and responsibility as part of a high-tempo office environment. Primary Responsibilities:
- Serves as the SME for mild, moderate, severe and penetrating TBI of the TBICOE network and HQ.
- Review specialty SME quarterly reports and provide updates to leadership on emerging areas of clinical practice.
- Provides assistance and expertise to TBICOE senior leadership in issues of TBI research, clinical care and standards of care for patients along the full continuum of TBI severity.
- Collaborates with and receives direction from TBICOE leadership, DoD health care policy offices and other subject matter experts to assist in enhancing metrics for evaluation of TBI services and programs.
- May provide input for development of training platforms/tools.
- When appropriate, provides direct training.
- Provide consultation to leadership in TBICOE, DoD and clinical programs regarding the evidence on TBI evaluation, treatment and management, identification of gaps in evidence, the current and future needs in the military and future research requirements.
- Supports TBICOE researchers in their TBI research as an SME.
- May directly collaborate in TBICOE/DoD research projects.
- Attends and participates in scholarly, academic and scientific meetings related to TBI.
Position Requirements:
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: SMEs are professional personnel who have published in peer review publications and/or presentations at professional meetings.
- Excellent oral and written communications required.
- Must adhere to legal, professional and ethical codes with respect to confidentiality and privacy.
- Experience in Fundamental, Basic, Applied, or Mixed Research preferred.
- Knowledge of TBI and statistics required.
- Knowledge of DoD and VA health care systems strongly preferred.
- Must have strong collaborative and organizational skills.
Minimum Education/Training Requirements:
- Nurse practitioner or Physician Assistant degree with license required.
- 5-10 years of experience in healthcare and healthcare research required.
- Experience with TBI, prior experience with DoD/VA systems strongly preferred.
- Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) with state license required, Board certification preferred.
Physical Capabilities: Must be able to perform required duties and responsibilities.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls: May supervise one or more assistants or junior colleagues.
Work Environment: Office environment. Must be available to travel locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
