Position Specific Summary : To design, plan, promote and conduct services, technology transfer, and coordination of administrative functions for environmental health programs of substantial complexity and impact, on and off campus, in conjunction with The University of Iowa Environmental Health Sciences Research Center (EHSRC) and other sponsored studies.

Key Areas of Responsibilities and Specific Job Tasks

Grant Exploration and Development

Assist with preparing progress and other reports as required by the funding agency.

Assist with preparing grant applications for competing renewals, supplements and other center-related applications.

Assist in the evaluation of the effectiveness of EHSRC programs.

Oversee center-initiated pilot grant and career enhancement program award applications.

Post-Award Administration/Financial Responsibility

Assist with preparing annual, special, and periodic operational and fiscal reports.

Track publications emanating from Center research and submit publications to NLM for compliance with NIH rules.

Compliance

Monitor compliance with contract/grant terms in accordance with University policies and state and federal regulations.

Assist with human subjects review, for example, reporting of human subjects information and compiling annual cumulative enrollment reports.

Assist with animal subjects review, including for pilot grant awardees.

Operational/Administrative Support

Oversee and coordinate the operations of various administrative programs, including the pilot grant program, career enhancement program, and Center seminars, workshops, and conferences.

May be responsible for Workflow-related functions (i.e., financial electronic transaction routing).

Initiate travel-related and purchasing transactions.

Maintain the Center website.

Compile the annual reports of all Center components.

Maintain multiple contact lists for distributing announcements and educational opportunities.

Coordinate meetings, including scheduling and preparing agendas and minutes.

Write and edit articles and reports for publications and distribution.

Help with the tracking or other duties related to strategic initiatives.

External Communication and Negotiations

Participate in Environmental Health Sciences Core Center activities, such as administrator calls and annual meetings.

Serve as liaison for media inquiries and investigators, assisting with making connections between media and investigators.

Leadership/Supervision

May provide functional supervision over other administrative staff and/or student employees.

Assist in the recruitment of EHSRC staff as appropriate.

This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Required Qualification s

Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Reasonable (1-3 years) administrative, supervisory and program experience is required.

Demonstrated knowledge of administering complex, federally funded research grants, including tracking and reporting.

Evidence of experience requiring strong organizational and planning skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other advanced software, including artificial intelligence.

Ability to travel and work some evenings.

Desirable Qualifications

Master’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience with website maintenance.

Experience working with federal and other granting agencies.

Experience working with an interdisciplinary group of researchers.

Experience working with an Advisory Board or Board of Directors and/or community groups.

Experience supervising and directing technical, research staff, students and/or volunteer groups.

Knowledge of environmental science or public health science research.
