Position Summary:
The Summer Camp Educator works collaboratively to lead fun, inclusive, developmentally appropriate learning experiences for children from Pre-K-8th grade in full day summer camps from June to August. They provide engaging, high-quality experiences exploring art, making, nature, technology, and more, while nurturing joy, creativity, curiosity, and kindness.
This position requires experience working directly with children in learning and enrichment environments. This position also requires organization, communication, positivity, and excellent teamwork skills.
Essential Job Duties:
- Works as part of an education team to deliver child-centered camp experiences that nurture joy, kindness, creativity and curiosity
- Facilitates Educator-led camp activities for students aged 4-13; exploring museum exhibits, art, making, movement, nature, technology, design, and more across the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh campus
- Works with campers 1-on-1 or in small groups to provide support during activities, conflict resolution, and ensure individual's needs and accommodations are being met
- Creates a welcoming and inclusive experience for summer camp participants and visitors of diverse backgrounds and abilities
- Assists in material prep and organization
- Tidies classroom at the end of each day, and helps reset at the end of each week in preparation for weekend programming
- Maintains a safe and fun camp atmosphere by developing games, building positive relationships with campers, and encouraging creativity and curiosity throughout the day
- Models kindness when interacting with campers, caregivers, museum visitors, and fellow staff
- May assist with staffing museum exhibits, supporting field trips, or general visitor experiences in the museum
Additional Responsibilities:
- Participates with the Museum team in ongoing learning research and reflective practice
- Participates in trainings and follows Museum best practices and policies for instruction, behavior management, and facilitation
- Monitors and assists campers and museum visitors ensuring safe interactive experiences in exhibits, art studio, and maker spaces, which may involve tools and physical movement
- Follows appropriate safety and emergency procedures and uses equipment and materials properly
- Positively represents the Museum by providing welcoming and inclusive customer service
- Shares expertise with peers and learns from peers

Job Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required, some college is preferred.
Experience:
- Experience and enthusiasm for working with children required, previous camp or informal instruction preferred.
- Strong problem-solving experience, flexible thinking, and ability to adjust expectations and actions with an open mind.
Skills:
- Ability to engage with children of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.
- Must be dependable, adaptable, and a good communicator.
- Commitment to continued learning for both personal and team growth.
- Highly organized with excellent communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements & Equipment Usage:
- W alking, Standing, Bending, Kneeling, and Sitting: The duties and responsibilities associated with this position will require movement throughout the museum spaces to interact with visitors, educators, and to activate museum experiences.
- Verbal Communication: This position frequently communicates with campers and staff while facilitating camp experiences. The Summer Camp Educator will be expected to exchange accurate and helpful information, and communicate issues to team members and supervisors.
- Lifting: Occasional lifting and moving of furniture, equipment, and supplies weighing up to approximately 50 lbs. Regular lifting of items under 15 lbs.
- Manual Dexterity: The Summer Museum Educator may operate various equipment, including but not limited to power tools, utility knives, art materials, etc.

Work Environment, Hours of Work, and Travel Requirements:
- Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM
- Duties will be performed inside classrooms, exhibit spaces, and in out-door working conditions.
- Dependable daily transportation is required.
- Duties will be performed in a museum environment, which includes interaction with the public and exposure to children and families.
Clearances:
- FBI fingerprint, PA Child Abuse History Certificate (Act 33) and PA State Criminal Record Check (Act 34) are required.
