Job Description:

The Systems Engineer designs, implements and maintains the College's data center services to ensure security, integrity and availability of technical services; and supports the technical computing and communication needs of the campus community to enable optimal efficiency and productivity of all organizational components.

Duties include:

• Managing and monitoring identity management system and user and system access to information systems – utilizing APIs and scripts with identity management software
• Providing daily maintenance, monitoring and ongoing support of cluster hosts, VM servers, and data storage systems
• Evaluating new server and storage technologies and determining feasibility of integration into the existing environment while monitoring and optimizing performance and effectiveness of server and data storage systems
• Developing and maintaining documentation and maintaining knowledge of current technologies, while designing and recommending acquisitions accordingly
• Coordinating and supporting internal and external entities to ensure effective integration of server and storage systems and technologies
• Designing and maintaining disaster recovery solution to ensure data integrity and business continuity while also designing, administering, and securing campus collaboration systems
• Assisting in the design of and monitoring physical data center environment to ensure stability and integrity of server and storage systems
• Providing the highest level of support to user and desktop support activities and identifying and resolving system vulnerabilities and threats.

Other duties include organizing and disseminating technical information in an understandable format; working with vendors to identify potential products; testing server and data storage systems and software; and performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.

Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.

Required Education:

Associate's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Database Systems, Computer Programming, Cloud Computing, Information Technology, or a closely related field. Or, a High School Diploma with at least 6 total years of relevant experience as a system engineer

Required Experience:

Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in Active Directory, Windows Server OS, Hypervisor technology, and scripting language experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Active Directory, Windows Server OS 2012, 2016, 2019, Hypervisor technology, and experience with scripting, (e.g. Powershell).
