 PURPOSE OF ANNOUNCEMENT 

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides information technology support ranging from desktop support for over 13,000 employees to applications that support a wide variety of program areas for the State of Maine.  Through the Maine Office of GIS (MEGIS), OIT supports the Maine Library of Geographic Information (Maine GeoLibrary) in its mission to expand and promote the value of geospatial data for the benefit of Maine's citizens.We are looking for a person to serve as Executive Director to the GeoLibrary Board.

JOB DESCRIPTION

This is professional services work of a managerial nature in planning and conducting large projects for the GeoLibrary Board.This position serves as Executive Director to the Board and is expected to fulfill the requests of the Board pertinent to its mission, authorizing statutes, and strategic plan.Although this position will not have permanently assigned subordinate employees, managerial and coordinative responsibilities over consultants, contracted personnel, and committees are central to the purpose of this position. Work is performed under administrative direction, with a wide degree of independence required.

The duties of this position will include managing contacts and relationships with a wide array of geospatial data users, and marketing of GeoLibrary-sponsored projects to government entities, educational institutes, nonprofit organizations, commercial businesses, and public constituents. This position will be expected to provide testimony to the State GIS Manager, the State CIO, the Governor, and the Maine State Legislature on issues relevant to the GeoLibrary Board, and as directed by the Board.This Executive Director will be required to conduct outreach activities to engage the diverse constituency of the Board in supporting and funding large geospatial projects and programs. This position will be expected to manage these projects and programs for the Board and to administer federal and other grants.
