Position Description
Job title: Assistant Superintendent
FLSA: Exempt
Reporting Functions: Reports to the Superintendent of Catholic Education
Job Function: The Assistant Superintendent
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Promote and foster the Catholic Identity of the schools and ensures they operate within the Diocesan and Office of Education policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with Office of Education team to ensure best practices in Diocesan-wide strategic leadership and operational management to ensure the development and maintenance of safe, positive educational environments and programs that meet the needs of the community and is consistent with the policies and directives of the Bishop and Board of Education.
- Conduct scheduled school visits to all schools to monitor and promote programming consistent with mission and vision espoused by the Diocese, Superintendent's Office, as well as the school and parish community.
- Serve as lead curriculum coordinator by overseeing and coordinating all curriculum committees.
- Coordinate curriculum articulation meetings and oversee Chairpersons.
- Assist in development of quality professional development, including Induction, New Principal onboarding, and Leadership Academy.
- Oversight of Diocesan Assessment program: student assessments, report cards, standardized testing and benchmarking.
- Coordinate Middle States and all certification or accreditation programs.
- Act as a liaison officer of the Superintendent of Education with elementary principals, teachers, and Curriculum Chairpersons.
- Support the work of the Deputy Superintendent in Government Programs.
- Professional Development, Early childhood, Special Education programs, curriculum material selection/negotiation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Educational requirements: Certified Pennsylvania teacher; PA Administrative Certification preferred. Master's degree expected. Certified Catechist or equivalent preferred.
Other requirements:
- Candidate must be a practicing Catholic in good standing, have a deep knowledge of the Catholic faith, and agree to live by the tenets of the Catholic faith, including in lifestyle and on personal social media.
- Prior direct teacher supervisory and administrative experience required; Catholic school experience desired. A minimum of 15 years of teaching and administrative experience.
- Expert knowledge of the teachings and values of the Catholic Church and proven ability to impart this knowledge.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; interpersonal and public relation skills.
- Ability to accomplish projects on time and within budget.
- Ability to work professionally and collaboratively.
- Optimistic, enthusiastic, and team-centered professional with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Competence in the use of technology required for this position.
Physical Demands: The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear both in person and by telephone; frequent use of equipment that includes repetitive motions and computer eye fatigue. Occasionally required to reach and lift with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
Working conditions: Working hours - 35 hours/week -Monday through Friday; 8:00 AM- 4:00 PM. May be required to occasionally work more than normal working hours, including evening and weekend responsibilities when connected with programming and events.
