Position Summary:

Coordinates, implements and evaluates the organization’s infection prevention and control program. Assists in interpretation and implementation of established policies and procedures: makes recommendations for revisions and assists with updating policies and procedures.

Participates in educational programs at a local, state, regional, national level.

Assists in coordination of meetings for various performance improvement and program development needs.

Coordinates the communication and implementation of standards to the hospital nursing staff through both formal and informal settings.

Maintains and monitors documented standards through direct observation, medical record review, staff feedback and other appropriate sources.

Application of epidemiological principles to include activities directed at improving patient outcomes.

Collection and analysis of infection control and quality data.

Accurately and timely enters Infection data into the appropriate database. Compiles and prepares infection data reports.

Assists in developing and implementing an effective program for assessing and improving hospital performance.

Assists in preparing and/or coordinating organization-wide infection prevention policies and or plans as appropriate.

Works with employee health to ensure policies are compliant with CDC recommendations.

Coordinates Infection Control committee activities, circulates information prior to meeting, reports and presents data, assures follow up and completes minutes in an accurate and timely manner.

Assists in distributing infection control information (including reporting to regulatory agencies) to all who need to know in a timely manner.

Performs Infection Control Risk Assessments proactively and participates on construction project teams.

Serves as a member of the Safety Committee

Reports to: Director - Quality Management

FLSA: Exempt

Minimum Education

An associate degree or higher in nursing, public health, epidemiology, clinical laboratory science, medical technology, or related field - Required.

BSN/MSN/MPH/MLT – Preferred

Required Skills

Certifications:

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved American Heart Association training center must be current upon hire.

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Licenses: If holds an RN or MT license in State of Tennessee, must maintain licensure. CIC certification by Certificate Board of Infection Prevention Control and Epidemiology, Inc. is encouraged.

Minimum of 5 years nursing or degree-related clinical field - Required
