Job description
Eastern Virginia Medical School’s Department of Family and Community Medicine is seeking a full-time Family Medicine physician to join their department as a core faculty member at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. Additional features of this position include the opportunity to closely collaborate with EVMS’ Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the development of Obstetric Medicine clinics, to better serve the peripartum and long-term health needs of the underserved communities of Hampton Roads, VA.

As a core faculty member in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, your duties will include clinical supervision of FM residents in multiple settings (continuity clinic, inpatient service, Labor and Delivery), as well as teaching and mentorship of residents and medical students. OB responsibilities will include staffing L&D for FM continuity deliveries and management of outpatient maternal health services in our residency continuity clinics. Additional opportunities for time on L&D to maintain clinical skills, including surgical obstetrics, will also be included in the position’s schedule.
A unique feature of this position will be the development and staffing of Obstetric Medicine clinics, in collaboration with the EVMS Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology’s Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, to provide an additional medical perspective to the challenging medical conditions associated with high-risk pregnancies. Quality improvement and research opportunities in numerous aspects of Women’s Health are expected to result from these endeavors, within which the candidate will be ideally placed to participate, led by EVMS Chair of OB/GYN and Associate Dean for Women’s Health Dr. George Saade.
M.D. or D.O. and board eligible/certified in Family Medicine, with completion of an Obstetrics fellowship preferred. Candidates must meet Virginia licensure requirements and complete licensure within the state prior to start date. Academic appointment and salary will be commensurate with experience and AAMC benchmarks.
