Position Summary:

The Grants Accountant will support the Accounting Services Department, which is responsible for post-award grant administration and accounting functions. Under the direction of the Manager of Grants Accounting and Compliance, this position provides specialized professional administrative (finance, compliance and technical) guidance, oversight and assistance to faculty and staff to facilitate University research and sponsored program activity, in accordance with federal and state laws, sponsor guidelines and University policy and procedure.

Other administrative responsibilities include, but are not limited to, award setup and modifications based on the terms and conditions of grant agreements, collaboratively with Principal Investigators and funding agencies to manage the award fiscally and administratively throughout the project period, prepare and file financial reports and submission of period billings according to award requirements, monitoring of regulatory mandates and advisement to Principal Investigators regarding changes in agency and federal regulations and University polices on grant administration, and perform other administrative duties as required and requested.

Essential Functions:

• Perform tasks including grant budget setup provisions, the initiation, preparations and delivery of all grant fiscal reports (interim and final) and billing, tracking and recording of receipt of funding and receivables (aging and uncollectable), collecting and drawing down accounts receivables, preparing close-out documents and various other required tasks.
• Provide institutional oversight by monitoring all University grant activity (i.e. reviewing expenditures and cost-transfers for allowability, allocability, reasonableness), and appropriate recording of expenses to sponsored projects and the general ledger in order to ensure compliance with generally acceptable accounting principles ( GAAP ) and sponsor reporting requirements.
• Conduct the University's effort certification process, equipment inventory counts, sub recipient monitoring, and other required controls, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance.
• Evaluate post-award grant processes and systems, and lead initiatives where re-engineering is relevant, including thinking outside the box and continually seeking ways to improve processes, procedures, internal controls to the establishment of best practices.
• Develop and maintain fiscal post-award grants policy and procedures.
• Serve as expert on Uniform Guidance and other regulatory rules and apply expert knowledge and interpretation of regulatory provisions to all facets of fiscal post-award grant administration, ensuring University compliance
• Promote and maintain excellent relationships with faculty, administrative staff, and Office of Sponsored Programs, including providing outstanding and efficient customer service.
• Respond to external and internal requests.
• Prepare the annual Schedule of Federal Awards and participate in University fiscal year audit, ensuring that comprehensive and well-organized documentation is readily available to support all requests.
• Design and deliver training, guidance and communications to Principal Investigators and fiscal administrators, regarding best practices, University policy and procedures, funding agency rules and regulations, and other fiscal post award activities.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
• Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated expertise in federal and state grants, specifically Uniform Guidance, grant accounting, and/or all other facets of post-award fiscal grant administration. 
• Grant agency experience, public accounting experience,

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certified grants management specialist
• Experience with financial systems, Banner, TM1, Blackboard Analytics and Hyland 

Minimum Salary: $80,000

Maximum Salary: $90,000
