Job description
In USN, students produce a weekly news magazine show, live sports broadcasts, live event coverage, podcasts, radio segments, and short films. Quality works are featured on our media outlets and submitted to competitions and festivals worldwide. We participate in local and national student competitions and festivals, like STN, All American High School Film Festival, FSPA, and the Suncoast Emmys. We hope to one day rival the top programs in the country! Our ideal candidate is someone who will lead the program long term into its next stage of development and help us create an award-winning program.
Qualified candidates will be able to teach both introductory and advanced level courses in digital media production, including skills in digital editing, sound engineering, lighting, graphic design, broadcast journalism, film, and studio production. While expertise in all areas of media production is not required, qualified candidates will demonstrate a willingness to learn and the ability to help students access the training necessary for growth and achievement.
About NSU University School We are a private, independent school in Davie, Florida, located on the beautiful campus of Nova Southeastern University. We have a fully equipped media production studio and control room (with TriCasters), as well as a newly renovated music production studio.
Our class sizes are relatively small — 24 students max — and we are very invested in providing our teacher with the resources necessary for success. Responsibilities
- Teach Middle and Upper School Media Production and Broadcast and Digital Journalism classes.
- Work closely with the Directors to develop and align curricula.
- Work with the Media Production teacher at the Lower School to ensure vertical alignment.
- Implement best practices in art education pedagogy based on student-centered learning and responsive teaching methods.
- Communicate consistently with parents and school counselors about student progress.
- Create a welcoming environment that reflects the school’s mission of challenging each student to achieve academic excellence within a nurturing atmosphere.
- Attend department, team, and faculty meetings.
- Attend other events as directed by the Director or Associate Director of Arts.
- Attract and retain students for extracurricular programs.
- Lead student production teams in covering school events, live sports broadcasts, and live performances.
- In conjunction with the Directors, conduct research to identify opportunities for student participation in competitions, festivals, workshops, and conventions.
- Plan, organize, and promote field trips to student competitions and festivals.
- In partnership with the Director of Arts and OIIT Department, continuously organize, maintain, and update the Media Production resources.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for student use of materials and equipment.
- Inventory, track, and maintain equipment and organize equipment storage spaces.
- Design and implement rubrics for evidence-based evaluation of student performance and mastery.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
- Identify opportunities to highlight student works in the community.
- Produce the NSU University School Annual Film Festival.
- Help create a budget for upcoming school year.
Ideal candidate will
- Operate the components of our advanced production studio: vocal booth, sound boards, studio and DSLR cameras, lights, TriCaster, and recording equipment.

Qualifications
- Bachelor or advanced degree in the film/video/cinema arts/broadcast journalism, an interactive media-related field, or a field relevant to the duties of the position with significant experience working with Media Production as well as associated AV technology.
- At least 4 years of experience in production and post-production audio and video technologies and software, and/or a willingness to learn Adobe CC (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design, etc.), Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, iZotope RX7 Production Suite, Pro Tools, Ableton Live, etc.
- Preferably 2 or more years of teaching experience, including curriculum design with integration of media arts in the classroom.
- Experience in Television Production and/or the field of broadcast and digital journalism.
- Knowledge of effective instructional techniques and innovative modes of course delivery adaptable to a variety of learning styles.
- Familiarity with narrative and illustrative conventions and techniques in temporal media and in executing projects from concept to polished production.
- Demonstrated ability to create, advocate for, and execute a long-term vision for programmatic growth.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to articulate technical information to non-technical students and faculty.
- Experience working in a team-oriented environment.
- Demonstrated ability to network and build a team of well-rounded media arts professionals in the community.
- Willingness to adapt in a fast-paced work environment where roles and responsibilities are flexible.
