Job description
Summary
The Painter is responsible for applying paint, varnish, and other materials to surfaces. This can be for decorative proposes or to protect the underlying surface materials. The job involves preparing surfaces, mixing and matching paint colors, and applying paint with various tools.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Clean and prepare surfaces by removing old paint, dirt, and any imperfections.
- Fill cracks, holes, and joints with caulk, putty, or other fillers.
- Sand and smooth surfaces to ensure proper adhesion of paint.
- Mix and match paint to achieve desired colors, considering factors such as lighting and surrounding decor.
- Consult color charts and samples to assist in color selection.
- Apply paint, varnish, or other finishes using brushes, rollers, or sprayers.
- Ensure even application and proper coverage.
- Follow specified techniques and methods for different surfaces and materials.
- Apply primers or sealers to prepare surfaces for painting.
- Use masking tape and drop cloths to protect areas not intended for painting.
- Take precautions to ensure a safe and clean work environment.
- Clean and maintain painting tools and equipment regularly.
- Report any malfunctioning equipment or the need for replacements.
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents or injuries.
- Properly dispose or store of any materials.
- Ensure work is completed and is of quality/make touch-ups or corrections as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must pass a background study conducted by the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
- Must complete CPR and First Aid training prior to on-site work.
